60 Plus Association Opposes Utility MACT Supports Senator Inhofe's resolution and legislation in opposition.

(Alexandria, Virginia) -- 60 Plus Association Chairman Jim Martin issued the following statement today regarding Senator James Inhofe's (R-OK) introduction of a Congressional Review Act Resolution of Disapproval of EPA’s “Utility MACT” regulation:

"As the leader of an organization representing 7.1 million seniors -- many on fixed incomes -- I vehemently protest the EPA's scheme to implement the Utility MACT rule, and strongly support Senator Jim Inhofe's (R-OK) resolution and legislation (S.1971) to fight the oppressive anti- energy regulatory agenda of the Obama Administration's EPA.

"For the last three years the EPA has been entirely hostile to policies that will increase energy supplies and lower costs for America's seniors and families, and MACT is one of the very worst examples of this. At a time when overbearing regulations are crushing U.S. industry and providing no public or economic benefit, MACT must be stopped.

"Everybody shares the goal of environmentally responsible energy extraction and consumption, but the MACT as pushed by the EPA is totally irresponsible by demanding standards that are of no benefit to the public, but burden consumers with higher energy costs that will kill jobs.

"As Americans are struggling to get on their feet and survive in the current economic malaise, MACT is the wrong idea at the wrong time. Saddling energy producers with $11 billion in new taxes will be crippling to them and the working Americans struggling to pay their bills. Sadly, this Administration doesn't care about public health, only about putting energy producers ever more tightly under its thumb."
