In Here I Ll Be Talking About Social Investing

In here I’ll be talking about social investing. In social investing there is a moral standing. As people would say “I don’t want to own the banks in my portfolio” (webfeat, 2005). Investors over the years have been known to not invest into portfolios that profit from killing people. They think their portfolio’s are more are more appealing when they are ethical and morally rounded than if they depict evil. It would be considered bad business. There is a positive link for companies that are socially responsible and those becoming strong financial performers. Most people consider companies that are ethical to be considered socially sound to invest in. But a good question to ask is how you would screen out a company that isn’t sociably sound in a world that seems to want to invest into anything anymore. My fiancé said that she thinks that most companies these days are deceiving and don’t play towards all audiences. While my mom said that she wouldn’t care one way or another since she doesn’t pay attention to the ads just cares about getting a good deal. A lot of people don’t realize what social investing is. It is the practice of aligning a foundation’s investment with its mission. SRI funds usually look at three areas. One is weeding out bad corporate apples; two is to invest in community driven projects, and last advising shareholders in good company policy (web feat, 2005). Socially oriented investments typically use a ordained list of financial and social concerns to get rid of certain kinds of investments such as no defense companies, tobacco sellers, and alcohol sellers, and gambling establishments. Investment firms tend to like to go to companies that have good family values and are getting to be more invested into companies that are environmentally friendly. They are turning more to these companies because more people are leaning towards environmentally safe products and vehicles. When asked about how she felt with the environment and buying products my fiancé said “That she would prefer environmentally safe products and recycled products not only because they help the world and usually recycled products are cheaper. Socially responsible investments are turning up more and more in 401k’s retirement plans and college saving plans. Along with that more and more are companies going along with religious guidelines as their screening choice. They use this screening method to weed out some of the bad areas that could infect their portfolio. In fact most of the initial SRI investors are from the academia and non profit arena of the world. They did this because they wanted a positive social impact, but none the less profit as well. Within ten years at least one socially responsible investment option will be in every investment portfolio. One of the leading groups introducing socially responsible funds is the TIAA- CREF
