Research Synthesis and Characterization of Semiconductor Oxide 1-D Nanostructures by Vapor Transport Method. (PhD Research) Projects Different nanostructures of ZnO and SnO2 (nanobelts, nanowires, nanocombs etc) were (Completed) synthesized by vapor-transport method. Diameter of ZnO nanostructures were controlled from few 10’s of nm to several micrometers, by carefully controlling Ar flow rate. Gas sensing properties suggested that selectivity and sensitivity of sensors for H2 and CO can be improved considerably and can be controlled by different doping levels.

Synthesis of Nano Size BaTiO3 Powder. (MS Research) Single-phase BaTiO3 nanoparticles were synthesized by solid-state reaction. Main goal was to control particle size, shape and distribution. It was found that initial TiO2 particle size and milling of BaCO3 plays an important role in controlling the final BaTiO3 particle size. Particles smaller than 60nm were achieved by reacting nanosized TiO2 and mechanically activated BaCO3.

Development of Lead-free Solders. (Undergraduate Research) Different compositions in binary (Bi-Sn) and ternary (Bi-Sn-Zn) systems were developed to replace the conventional lead solders.

Funded Synthesis of BaFe12O19 powder by solid-state reaction and its magnetic Research properties (HEC Funded Project). Projects This study is undertaken to suggest some improvements in the solid-state reaction and develop a complete synthesis route for the industrial scale production of hard magnets of desirable sizes and shapes. The major issues will be powder synthesis, doping of different elements, control of particle size and distribution. Sintering and magnetic properties will also be a part of the study. Environmental Remediation and Waste Water Treatment Using Solar Energy and Semiconductor Oxide Nanostructures as Photocatalytic Smart Materials. (HEC Funded Project) The ultimate goal of the project is to develop a solar energy driven pilot plant for the effective removal of pollutants from the wastewater. Semiconductor oxide nanostructures will be synthesized as photocatalytic material. Conventionally, UV light is used for the degradation of pollutants. However, this project aims to utilize the visible range also and enhance the photocatalytic activity by using broader spectrum of the sun light.
