Who Should Attend: This course is offered solely to Federal, State, Local and Tribal Law Enforcement partners, who have authority and a demonstrated operational need to fly armed. Please specify in your memo that you have a need to fly armed and you have successfully completed the TSA online Flying Armed Class. Course Description: Law Enforcement In-Flight Tactical Familiarization course is designed to provide, an overview of regulations pertaining to flying armed and security incidents that may be encountered on board an aircraft including:
Regulations pertaining to flying armed, procedures for carriage of prisoners, weapon handling in an aircraft environment,
Responses to in-flight incidents, including acts of air piracy or crimes of violence; tactical considerations in the aircraft; working with Federal Air Marshals and flight crews; aircraft configurations and vital aircraft systems; the role of the Federal Flight Deck Officer; and handling improvised explosive devices (IED) while in-flight. Course Objectives: Given an act of air piracy or crime of violence on board an aircraft, students will be familiar with law enforcement response options to address the incident in accordance with their training, abilities, authority and respective agency policies and procedures.
