On behalf of the Management Committee I present the 54th Annual Report and Financial Statement for your consideration and approval.
A job well done by all those who patrolled our beach this season under the direction of the Patrols Captains, the Club Captain, Col Mitchell and Vice President Lifesaving, John Gorely. They were all ably assisted by the Lifesaving Committee and the administration staff. Along with Craig Clarke, I had the dubious task of inspecting patrols during the latter part of the season. Although there is room for improvement the majority of members were visibly committed and I felt confident that each patrol could rescue and provide the necessary resuscitation and first aid if required. Congratulations to all competitors, team managers, assistants, coaches, office bearers, and Surf Sports Committee members. The season was certainly one of the best and it may be hard to better but I am sure under the direction of the Surf Sports Committee anything is possible.
Once again the Supporters Club and Sponsors donated record amounts to the Surf Club and above all this allowed us to reduce our debt by a substantial amount whilst maintaining and improving the Surf Club environment.
A final commendation to Brian, Maureen, John and all the Office Bearers who have contributed to this season and the recording of the same in this annual report.
DAVID OXENHAM Vice President Administration PRESIDENTS REPORT
Another successful season has just ended with all members to be congratulated on the way in which they performed their various duties and responsibilities. Surf Life Saving has become an integral part of the Gold Coast, with tourism especially relying on surf clubs to provide safe beaches for visitors and locals alike. Under the leadership of John Gorely and Colin Mitchell, our lifesaving services have excelled this season with excellent patrol attendance and a high quality of vigilance. Congratulations to our Life Saving Committee who have strived to achieve a level of professionalism and dedication on our patrols and in the education of our members.
The competition year ended on a record-breaking note. This year’s Australian Championships were the Club’s most successful with 9 Gold Medals. We also achieved 2nd in the Australian Championship Pointscore. Congratulations to all our competitors who represented Northcliffe with distinction throughout the season from Nippers through to Masters. Special mention to Hayley Bateup who won 3 Gold Medals including the Open Ironwoman (Hayley also won the Female Competitor of the Carnival). Great effort Hayley. Thanks to all our Coaching Staff for a great year.
Obviously in an organization such as ours, there are many members who volunteer their time to assist in the management and direction of the Club, and it’s activities. Further, I would like to thank all members who have sat on various committees of the Club and to those members who have helped in many other ways, at making Northcliffe what it is today. Our major financial contributions have once again come from our Supporters Club and I would like to thank Mike Deane and the Supporters Club Management Committee for their continued assistance and their appreciation of the direction in which the Club is travelling.
Mike Deane and our Patron, Terry Jackman, have again provided our Management with professional guidance and support through their vast network of supporters and associates. On behalf of the Club I would like to thank Mike and Terry for their immeasurable assistance over many years.
Thanks also to Sheryl and all the Staff at our Supporters Club for their professional and cordial service to our members and patrons.
Today’s surf club requires considerable support to an increasing membership and vast array of services for both the Surf Life Saving and Supporters’ Clubs. Northcliffe’s Staff have the responsibility of the day to day running of the Club, a task which they all perform in a professional and efficient manner.
On behalf of the Club I would like to sincerely thank our General Manager, Brian Parker, our Manager Lifesaving & Surf Sports, John Ogilvie, our Administrative Assistant, Maureen Gorely and our Junior Development Officer, Luke Richmond, for all the time and effort they have put into their respective roles at the Club.
The future of Northcliffe is definitely in good hands with our Junior Activities Committee giving our juniors a great opportunity to develop their life saving skills and become senior members at Northcliffe. Thanks to Stephen Fry and his Committee for all the work they do for our youngest and most important members.
Northcliffe is proud to be associated with many companies and individuals that support our Club financially year after year. We sincerely thank them for their support and hope they continue their association with Northcliffe.
On a personal note I would like to thank my wife, Michelle, for her appreciation of my commitment to Northcliffe and her constant support.
I hope you all enjoyed the past season at Northcliffe and look forward to seeing you all next season.
DAVID SHIELDS President GENERAL MANAGERS REPORT
It is the responsibility of the staff to manage the Club’s facilities and services and to implement the directives from the various committees and office bearers. If the performances of the season are an indication of success, all staff, committees and office bearers are to be congratulated on a job well done. Northcliffe completed its 54th season in a healthy state, patrol wise, competitively and financially. Our reputation as a harmonious, friendly family Club continues to attract high calibre members willing to contribute for the betterment of us all.
As always the first and greatest tribute must be paid to our volunteer patrolling members who have again delivered Northcliffe beach another fatality free summer. Our tireless members, under the guidance of Club Captain, Col Mitchell, have performed over 1000 preventative actions, rescues and first aid treatments. Special mention should be made of Scott Bradford and Joe Miller for their Gold Certificates presented at the Annual Dinner for outstanding rescues.
Competitively we have left ourselves little room to improve with a 2nd placing at the Australian Championships and a win by our masters at their Aussie Titles. Full credit goes to our competitors, coaching staff and surf sports office bearers for lifting the profile of the maroon star. Even TV commentator Darryl Eastlake had a lump in his throat as the Taplin Relay team crossed the line for their 3rd win in four years.
The Club’s future, our juniors, had another solid year with our limit of 300 members easily achieved. Under the guidance of Stephen Fry and his committee, our juniors have had an insight into the life saving movement and hopefully many of these will carry the torch into the coming decades. Thank you to all the age managers, water safety officers and officials for your tremendous support role. Thank you also goes to our staff, Maureen, John and Luke, the volume of work performed by this team has to be seen to be believed. Thank you also to our sponsors and supporters, your donations and funding of our subsidy scheme has assisted the Club at all levels. Our Sportsman’s Luncheon continues to impress, a crowd of 350 enjoyed a great afternoon of entertainment and raised nearly $50,000 for the Club.
I see a major part of my role at Northcliffe in the management of our assets and the reduction of our liabilities. I am happy to report an Operating Surplus of over $284,000 for the year following income of nearly $1,000,000. Our healthy bottom line meant that we were able to reduce our debt by $207,000 and to inject over $100,000 into capital improvements to our facilities and equipment. Of course our major contributor was the Supporters Club who tipped in $635,000 in donations and a further $72,000 in management fees. Thanks for this goes to the committee under President, Mike Deane and staff under Operations Manager, Sheryl Jones.
As I sat and watched the proceedings at the Annual Dinner I could not help but feel enormous pride to be associated with this great Club. From Whoopsie’s Life Membership, Rex and Norm’s Australian Sports Medals, the Robbie Nay Memorial Trophy nominees and the patrol incentive winners, I felt humbled by the talent within and the tremendous contribution our Club makes to the community. I also spared a thought for those members who didn’t grace the stage but whose contribution was worthy of equal accolade, our instructors, carnival officials, committee men and women and the average patrolling member who dons the red and yellow on a windy, wet Sunday afternoon to ensure that Northcliffe honours its contractual agreement with Council.
The positive human spirit generated by the collective membership is nothing short of amazing and I thank all for their contribution and I look forward to watching what can be achieved next season.

Club Captain’s Report CLUB CAPTAINS REPORT
It was with a sense of great pride and pleasure that I accepted the position of Club Captain this season, following the retirement of Scott Bradford. Throughout Scott’s five year term he was responsible for the introduction of many initiatives to maintain Northcliffe’s position at the fore-front of Surf Lifesaving. would like to congratulate Scott on his achievements during his term as Club Captain and thank him for raising the Club to such a level that my progression from Vice Captain was almost effortless. I must also express my gratitude to Kenny Edwards who nominated and encouraged me to accept the position of Club Captain.
The objectives of the Surf Lifesaving Committee for Season 2000/2001 were to achieve Surf Lifesaving Queensland’s target of zero preventable deaths on Northcliffe Beach, to improve the quality of our beach patrols and to further develop the skills of our existing patrolling members. In an endeavour to fulfil these objectives, the Surf Lifesaving Committee implemented a number of key strategies including the introduction of internal Club Patrol Inspections and offering a variety of specialised award courses to existing members. Thanks must go to both David Oxenham and Craig Clarke for conducting the Club Patrol Inspections throughout the season. These inspections served to improve the quality of our patrols, introduce a competitive spirit between patrols and increase the point scores awarded during Branch Patrol Inspections.
In addition, our Chief Instructor Chris Redler, has tirelessly conducted Bronze Medallion courses and offered a wide variety of specialist award courses almost single-handedly this season. My thanks go to Chris and his small team of Instructors for their hard work, commitment and persistence throughout the season. I would call upon all qualified Instructors in the Club to assist Chris in the training of award candidates next season.
I would like to congratulate the winners (Patrol No. 4) of this seasons Northcliffe Supporters Club Patrol Incentive Scheme. The competition was very tight with many patrols performing exceptionally well in all aspects of the scheme. The competition this season was based on attendance at the House-to-House collection, attendance at Friday Night Raffles, Patrol attendance and Club Patrol Inspection results. I trust the winners will enjoy their prize and hope that the high standards set this season can be exceeded next season.
Lifesaving at Northcliffe beach, continues to be at the fore-front. The introduction of the new Golden Circle beach Signage Kits has improved the appearance of our beach patrols this season. The signage kit was developed jointly by Surf Lifesaving Queensland and the National Safety Council of Australia to increase the recognition of patrolled areas and to comply with safety standards. I think that all will agree the new kit enhances the professional image of surf lifesavers throughout Queensland.
Also introduced to our patrols this season were two “waverunners” or jet skis, operated by Branch. These rescue craft patrol in a similar fashion to the jet boats and provide coverage of black spots and assistance to beach patrols as required.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the beach patrols this season. They include all active members, Patrol Captains and Lifesaving Committee members (John Gorely, Rebecca Wood, Chris Redler, Karyn Wood, David Irvine, Helen Irvine and Elly Van Vliet). A special thanks to John Ogilvie, Brian Parker and Maureen Gorely for assistance beyond their call of duty.
Let’s maintain Northcliffe as a world leading Surf Lifesaving organisation. Thank you for you efforts this season and I look forward to your continued involvement next season.
Yours in Lifesaving,

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICERS REPORT
Despite the millennium bug giving some agro with Maxon batteries and charges, we have completed our tenth 100% on air season. Costs associated with radios and gear have amounted to $564 and compared with $521 last season.
Two IRB harnesses will have to be replaced before next season because of age and condition. These were the second and third harnesses on the Gold Coast, the first being taken to Burleigh Heads by Russell Whitmore who showed it to me at a carnival in 1989/90.
ROC candidates totalled 23 this season and compare with 46 new members who completed their Bronze. We must strive to even up this figure and have more competent radio operators on patrol. My thanks go again to Tim Burgess and John Gorely for keeping an eye on radios in my absence. Hours at Gold Coast Command this season amounted to 66 and I officiated at 21 carnivals.
DAVID IRVINE Communications Officer
FIRST AID OFFICERS REPORT
This season saw Helen Irvine and myself involved with the education of First Aid and Resuscitation or the Bronze Medallion Squads and the Nipper U/13’s and U/14’s in the evenings. Helen continued with First aid Senior Certificate instruction as well. With my time becoming very limited I have not been involved as much as I feel I should have been. It would be great if nipper parents could show enthusiasm in obtaining specialist Officer’s Awards. It was great to see a few Nipper parents obtaining their Resus/CPR Awards and ‘yes’ it is possible and very much appreciated for members to become Award Members by doing a First Aid or Resus/CPR course only. After all that’s how I myself became involved “decades ago”. HAVE A GO!! Congratulations to the teams who deservedly won places at Branch, State and Nationals in the Patrol Competition and Champion Lifesaver. Their prize winning Laerdal vouchers have been used to buy more equipment for them. THANK YOU!
We also received from our Gear Grant a fantastic new First Aid Kid that will be allocated to those teams for next season. Continue with the effort you put in last season. I wish everyone could attend some of those realistically based competitions. With a minimum of Marine Stingers about this season, it was a delight not to have to refill the freezer with ice packs every week. It was also lovely to see that the Patrols clean the First Aid Room at the end of their day on the beach. A big ‘thank you’ to you all for your co-operation and all the best for the busy learning and training off season. ELLY VAN VLIET First Aid Officer
MARINE STINGER OFFICERS REPORT
It has been a very quite season for stingers. Patrol logs are effectively showing the number of persons stung per patrol but there is still a need to provide information on the number of stingers observed both in and out of the water to enable us to fulfil our commitment to the research in this area.
Operational readiness of the defibrillator in the soft pack has been checked monthly. On a personal note, I have attended 18 carnivals/events in our Branch where 272 patients have received first aid, some for stings, and also have worked 62 hours at Gold Coast Command.
HELEN IRVINE Marine Stinger Officer
IRB CAPTAINS REPORT
Another season has passed and the IRB’s have been neglected by Patrol Members once again. Costs were kept to a minimum until the end of season when one engine seized. This was due to the engine being flipped, followed by incorrect or poor rollover procedure, and no notes made.
It would be good to see a few more members gain their IRBD Certificate next season as the IRB is an important rescue tool.
REBECCA WOOD IRB Captain
BOAT CAPTAINS REPORT
This season turned out to be a successful year. We ended the season knowing that we have a strong future in surfboat rowing. Both crews finishing second in their respected grades in the VB Cup Final. I would like to thank, on behalf of both crews, Ray & Judy Jones, Claude, Whoopsie and Rex for looking after us at Coffs Harbour. Claude and Whoopsie also towed the boat to Sydney and cooked for us at the Australia Day Weekend Carnivals in Manly.
I would also like to thank our sponsors, Lindores Cranes and Riggering and Quinn Direct Liquor for their generous sponsorships this year. All crews should be congratulated for this season’s performance and I expect even better results in the coming season.

VICE PRESIDENT OF LIFE SAVING’S REPORT
We have had a very successful year in patrolling our beach and I would like to thank all Active Members who have done their patrols. I would also like to thank the Life Saving Committee for helping to make this happen. A special thanks to our Club Captain, Col Mitchell, who has contributed many hours to make this all work. The statistics from this year’s patrols are : 43 rescues; 1311 preventative actions. (Next season I would like to see us aim for more preventative actions and less rescues). We also had 24 first aid cases.
The Patrol Incentive Scheme was very successful in helping to keep our patrols diligent. I would like to congratulate Patrol No. 4 led by Kenny Edwards (Patrol Captain) - wonderful achievement! I hope they enjoy their New Zealand holiday. I also hope that this encourages other patrols to achieve the high standard that is required to win the competition next year. I would like to remind members that it is good for patrols if members obtain as many Awards as possible - e.g. First Aid, Advanced Resus, IRB, etc.
JOHN GORELY Vice President - Life Saving
VICE PRESIDENT OF SURF SPORTS’ REPORT
To say that this season was very successful would be a huge understatement. Totally eclipsing our 1998 record of 8 Gold medals at the Aussie Titles - this season saw Northcliffe competitors in an awe inspiring display taking out a total of 9 Gold medals. My sincere congratulations to all our competitors, without your self sacrifice and months of dedicated training none of these rewards would be remotely achievable.
Let’s not forget our pit crew - Xact Coaching - “Be the best you can be” sums it all up. Thank you guys for this people empowering spell you have cast over all of us. The stage is set for many more victories. Thank you to Chris Harris (Seniors) and Haydon Stokes (Masters) for your time and dedication in your respective divisions of team management. My praise to John Ogilvie, Maureen Gorely, Karyn Wood, David & Helen Irvine and all of our other behind-the-scene workers and officials for their thankless jobs. With next season just around the corner, and many competitors already sniffing for Gold at Aussies and World Titles (Daytona, USA), the scene is set for a ‘huge’ competitive season.”Set your goals now and be a part of it”.
NOEL KOLKKA Vice President- Surf Sports
MANAGER OF LIFE SAVING & SURF SPORTS REPORT
Here we are again - a season has passed us by, as always is the case, a few problems but nothing big!
The implementation of the in-house Patrol Inspections has created a good challenge and had good effect on our Patrol quality. We will have to find some new Patrol captains next season as a few of the guys have decided to call it quits. Patrols this season have had a bad run with surf conditions and the training of our Patrol members in “Preventions and Surveillance” must be seen as a priority.
The Coaching program in place is A1, and has created great mateship within the Club and the results show we have stepped up the ladder in placings at National level. Some adjustments must be made in our Junior Sections for the recruitment/retention of members to the Senior Club. With this problem in mind, the Clubs Surf Sports Committee have met and reviewed all sections and we will work from there.
Both sub-Committees of Life Saving and Surf Sports must be commended for their work and special praise must go to Col Mitchell, our Club Captain, Chris Redler, our Chief Instructor, Karyn Wood, our Registrar and Carnival Nominations Troubleshooter, Chris Harris, our Team Manager, who no doubt was pleased to see the end of the Aussies, and Maureen in the Office.
Yours in Lifesaving,
JOHN (Oges) OGILVIE Manager Life Saving & Surf Sports
TEAM MANAGERS REPORT
Gold - Gold - Gold - Gold - Gold - Gold - Gold - Gold - Gold !!! I’m pretty sure that counts nine Gold Medals - and for those of you who missed one of the best weekends of competition Northcliffe Surf Club has ever had, not to mention one of the best-ever after carnival parties, all I can say to you is ….YOU MISSED OUT BIG TIME !!
S E C O N D on the Australian Championship Club point score, but the most important thing of all was we most definitely won the Australian Championship again for the best Club atmosphere, support for each other, best cheering on the beach, the biggest smiles and probably the noisiest tent … basically the best Club!!! By far !!! AND IT FELT SOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!
There are so many people I need to thank this year for making my job so much less stressful than previous years:· John Ogilvie - No problem is too big for this man!· Maureen Gorely - The word ..NO.. does not exist in her dictionary!· Dick Clements - The results man. If you want to know how many strokes it took you to paddle your last race, Dick will most likely have it written down somewhere!· Peter Orwin - The best back up anyone could wish for and current Australian Champion carnival Clown!!· Sue Walton - This lady might cook great pancakes but she tops that by just being sooooo well organized, always!!· Jason Brunt - A future Team Manager if ever I saw one!!
My personal congratulations goes out to every competitor this year for such a great job, so professional - well done. These reports are always full of thankyous and praises to so many people, but I really do mean it from the bottom of my heart, that this years team of athletes from Northcliffe have been the most motivating to me by their enthusiasm and level of approach that you all have to your chosen sport.
There were so many successes by so many throughout the year and we must accept just a few and only a few, upsets….but if I had to pick out just one thing that really shone out to me.. it was that enormous wave our Australian Ironwoman Champion - Hayley Bateup caught and held, in the Open Womens Board Relay to help her team take out the Gold Medal.
Hayley you are a champion and at these Australian Titles you showed that to all of Australia - congratulations, so much!!
To Brett, Ty and the coaching team of XACT, guys a fantastic job in your first year of full time involvement with “The Cliffe”, our future looks so very promising.
I would also like to make mention of our Boat Section - to Brian Hurley and Peter Primo and their crews, guys a great solid year of establishment and improvement again, with some very impressive results at the right end of the season - keep it going all of you - well done!!
Three final “Well Dones” … and that goes to Scotty Unicomb and his team of Patrol Rescue Silver Medallists - Drew, Damo, Hayley, Trent and Marty....first year in and you were so very close….it’s exciting to think what you will do when you all get reeeaaallly fair dinkum!!
Second last “Well Done” …to Rex McGlynn and every young nipper who made us look so good in the March Past competition this year, thanks heaps to all of you…and no Lauren I didn’t forget your special effort to help win the Club 10 points in the Australian Championships by being our flag bearer in the March Past…you little champ!
This is the last “Well Done”, but also a huge thank you, to the Management Committee and the Supporters Club for, exactly that, giving so much major support to our athletes and patrolling members throughout this season.
We have had a big year coming up and I would ask you all to think about, how your efforts over the next 12 months, are going to help us all be members of a Club that will get closer to that Australian Club Championship point score and then head over to Florida, USA, to win the World Club Championship point score in May 2002.
Thank you all……

JUNIOR CHAIRPERSONS REPORT
The 2000-2001 season had plenty of highs and some low points for myself as first time Chairperson, but over all I would have to say that I have enjoyed the challenge.
Firstly, I would like to thank some people without whom Nippers would not be possible - The Junior Activities Committee for their time and effort during the season, Brett and Ty Dowker (Xact Coaching) and their coaches for their expertise in training our juniors. A special thank you on behalf of the Club and the 284 juniors who attended Nippers during the year to the Age Managers, Water Safety Officers, IRB drivers, etc. and, last but not least, to the parents who helped out on the beach with Age Managers and in the canteen.
Next season will see some changes to the Nipper program in the way of reduced numbers in the younger age groups (this has been brought on us by a duty of care requirement by Queensland Surf Life Saving), a more structured program to help juniors obtain the skills for life saving and competition, and planned trips away to some of our sister clubs to foster team and Club spirit as well as to improve competition skills. Many of these changes and more will be finalized in the next couple of months. The Club had some wonderful competition results during the year, and I would personally like to congratulate every member from the winners to the team members who just had a go!
Special mention must go to our State gold medallists (Jack Bruton, T.J. Burgess, Meagan Nay and the Under 13 Relay team), but like every story we also had our bad luck chapter - if only! Disqualifications! And so on.
Unfortunately there was also a small page of disappointing results, competitors not turning up or being late to carnivals and some unsupportive attitudes from a very small number of competitors and parents. Next season will have more of a “team feeling” about it and with competitors meetings being planned throughout the season I hope that we can tear that chapter out of the book.

Well, another Outrigger Canoe Season is fast approaching a close and the Northcliffe Outrigger Canoe Club has achieved some excellent successes in this current season so far.
Firstly, a trip down to Coffs Harbour early in the year generated what, one, would evaluate as a major Gold Lotto win in outrigger circles - and that was the random draw win by the Club and its competing members that weekend - a brand new Six Man Outrigger Canoe including a set of racing covers - valued in the vicinity of around $10,000. The Club is now the proud owner of seven six man outrigger canoes, two one man outrigger canoes, one fully equipped tinny and motor for training purposes, and from the generous donation of use from the James Penny Group in Brisbane we also have a virtual permanent member of our flotilla (on loan), an eighth six man canoe from that company.
Total insured value at $80,000!!!
What we are in desperate need of right now is a structure or storage facility to house these pieces of equipment from the weather in off-season….a storage warehouse, factory or the likes….any approaches to the Club would be greatly appreciated.
If our Club’s success this season, so far, is built on enthusiasm, mateship, positiveness, training, attitude, competitiveness and individual input to assist the betterment of the Club, then Northcliffe Outriggers are certainly on the right track to some very successful times in the not too distant future. The Gold Coast Cup Marathon Race is definitely heading down a track for international recognition with over thirty crews competing this year for minimum prize money, which only strengthens the thoughts that our regatta is attended because of it’s great concept, organization and social reputation. Well done here must definitely go to Bryan Collister and his team or organizers, once again for making it such a success.
My personal thanks to my Committee in my first year as President….to our Secretary: Sampson Hollywood (the head letter and email writer); our Treasurer: Bev Chorley (the keeper of monies); our Vice-President: Annie Valentine (for being a great support in many decisions that have to be made); our Registrar: Dianne Phillips (for making sure all the T’s are crossed and I’s dotted….always) and to our Boat Captain: Doug Carter (who always keeps things looking and working, shipshape…always). There are so many other people to thank this season who will be, as time permits, and that most only indicate that there are so many people doing “their bit” to make the Northcliffe OCC machine run in the right direction.
If you are interested in being involved we always welcome new members from Under 14’s right through to the Senior Masters Division (over 45’s) just contact me via the Surf Club. Happy Paddling!
CHRIS “HARRO” HARRIS President NORTHCLIFFE SUPPORTERS ASSOCIATION REPORT
On behalf of the committee and members of the Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Supporters Association Inc. I would like to congratulate all Surf Club members on another successful season. All facets of the Club appear to be working well under the watchful eye of committee and staff alike.
I am happy to report another solid year of performance by the Supporters Club with financial assistance to the tune of $707,000 in donations and management fees. With a little under a month to go in the financial year, the Supporters Club is set to record its 6th year of growth in turnover, membership and profits.
Much of this continued success is due to the staff who enhance the friendly atmosphere at the Club. Thank you to General Manager Brian Parker, Operations Manager Sheryl Jones and staff for a job well done. Thank you also to the committee who have steered the Club to its current success.
The Sportsman’s Luncheon was again a success with nearly $50,000 raised on the day. John Garfield and Greg Ritchie provided the entertainment, Ray Jones and team provided the food and Peter McLean and Tony Freestone provided the organization. As usual the key to the success is the willingness of our members to get in and help on the day, and again there were plenty on hand to make sure the 350 guests had a memorable afternoon. The bar naming went to a great Club supporter in Mick Power of BMD Constructions. Mick has been a long time supporter of Northcliffe and was a popular recipient of the award. The Ken Irvine Memorial Trophy for best Supporters Club member this year went to Dave Perrot. Dave is a local unit manager and has been one of our most loyal and deserving winners of this award. It was also pleasing to see two of our prominent members in Norm Lewis and Rex McGlynn receive Australian Sports Medals at the Surf Club’s Annual Dinner.
As the name suggests our role at Northcliffe is to ‘support’ the Surf Club with financial assistance throughout the year. It is pleasing to see the Surf Club in such a healthy state and I again congratulate President David Shields, the various committees and office bearers, the staff and the members - your contribution to the community is commendable and I look forward to being able to continue our supporting role for many seasons to come.

It is great pleasure that I present the financial report for the 2000/01 season. Thank you to auditors Franich and Crow for their assistance and professionalism shown throughout the year.
The Northcliffe Surf Club has concluded its financial year in a particularly healthy state. Operating profit is up $54,224 from last year to $284,780. Our debt was reduced by $207,614 leaving a total debt of $65,110. Much of the credit for our strong financial position is due to the Supporters Club who has injected $707,000 in donations and management fees up from $543,361 last year.
The trading account shows a lower return due to a combination of lower sales, the writing off of old clothing stock, the Club absorbing some of the GST payable on merchandise and a higher purchase price on some merchandise items.
Thank you to all staff associated with the maintenance and production of the Club’s financial records especially Fiona Mahoney. Thank you also to all members who have assisted in the fundraising projects throughout the year especially the Social Secretary Di Burgess. And of course a big thank you to the staff, committee and members of the Supporters Club for their tremendous assistance to the Surf Club.
