The International Year of Planet Earth in Portugal

The International Year of Planet Earth will be launched by His Excellency the President of Portuguese Republic

Organisational Structure

The Portuguese National Committee for the International Year of Planet Earth was created under the aegis of the Portuguese Commission for UNESCO in the framework of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development and is organized in three commissions:

a) Commission of Honour

Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education Minister of Education Minister of Environment, Territory and Regional Development Minister of Economy and Innovation Minister of Culture Minister of Foreign Affairs Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications President of Azores President of Madeira President of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community President of the Foundation for Science and Technology President of the Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian

b) Participating Organisations

These organisations include scientific institutions such as scientific societies, professional associations, public and private research institutions (related with activities concerning research and education on geosciences – including formal and non-formal education), private enterprises operating in Portuguese Speaking Countries, industry, universities, local authorities. Please kindly take note that a more complete list of Participating Organisations will be available on the website (www.unesco.pt ), since this is a document in progress.
