PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Position title: Communications Assistant (intern)

Reports to: Communications Officer

Supervises: N/A

Grade: N/A

Date: Feb 2018 – July 2018 (6 months)

I. Mission of the Department: The Communications plays a crucial role in the organization's success. It is a core strategic function that helps boost conservation outcomes. With campaign and media plans, the Communications supports the organisation in managing and sustaining relationship with key audiences, taking responsibility for the organization’s reputation and thereby helping the leadership to achieve its strategic and operational goals. As such, communications is an integral part of management responsibility. The Communications function becomes all the more vital the more visible the organization’s brand and its activities. II. Major Functions:

This role will support implementation of internal and external communications strategies and plans designed to promote WWF’s on-the-ground activities and successes in the country, and advocate for positive changes in favour of nature and people.

III. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 PR & events – Support planning and execution of campaign and media plans dam advocacy, Tiger Reintroduction, report and official visits to EPL and SSK landscapes  Bi-monthly E-newsletter – work with conservation and communications staff to develop interesting story and news articles and, together with associated images. Extended use of some of these articles is for upload onto the WWF-Cambodia website  Photo & Video asset management – working with communications staff (and/or expertise in WWF International and the Greater Mekong), support efforts to transition video and photo assets to the central digital asset management systems and to catalogue photos and videos on country communications database

 Website www.cambodia.panda.org – with training, learn how to use the Content Management System (CMS) and post new stories including texts, photos, videos, as well as audios; carry out content updates and develop ideas and execute new online assets

 Awareness products – develop and deliver communications assets (e.g., interviews, photo and article stories, print materials, short films etc) that bring to life WWF work and advance our conservation agenda  Social media strategy – working with communications colleagues at Phnom Penh and/or regional and Int offices, increase exposure of and interaction within the existing social media platform for WWF-Cambodia  Google site / intranet updates – work with communications staff on updating core areas of the Cambodia communications section, and filling gaps in key content. By end of the placement, a coaching session will be conducted for key staff in Phnom Penh, Kratie, Sen Monorom offices on the Google site and its applications  Conservation findings – proofread and edit reports and documents, and work with designers and printers as required. The work also involves organising packages for media plans consisting of summary write-up of reports, pulling together photo and video assets, and printing (media kits).

IV. Profile:

Required Qualifications  Experience with managing / developing multi-media materials (photos & video) an asset  Education and/or experience in media, journalism or online communications  Website management experience (content not technical), familiarity using an online content management system

Required Skills and Competencies  Self-start, able to work to deadline, and initiate and lead projects  Website management experience (content not technical), familiarity using an online content management system  Good understanding about the need of communications  Excellent written and spoken English, ideally mother tongue  Adhere to WWF’s values: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging.

V. Working Relationships:

Internal – this role will interact with conservation and communications staff of WWF. Conservation staff includes teams of the Eastern Plains Landscape (EPL) and Mekong Flooded Forest (MFF) Landscape. Communications staff includes teams of WWF-Cambodia, WWF- Greater Mekong based in Hanoi, WWF International and other WWF network offices when required. External – this role will interact with PR/advertising agencies, specialists / consultants, service providers, and potentially other stakeholders including members of the media in Cambodia (and from around the region), government and NGO reps.

This job description covers the main tasks and conveys the spirit of the sort of tasks that are anticipated proactively from staff. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary according to organizational needs.
