PROCEDURE:

1. Perform monthly or sooner if circumstances require.

2. Ensure that extinguishers are located in designated place. If not, place in correct location.

3. Ensure that there is no obstruction to impede visibility of equipment. If obstruction exists, remove it.

4. Ensure operating instructions on the nameplate are legible and facing outwards. Clean or replace the plate as necessary.

5. Check the date of the last maintenance. If more than one year remove extinguisher for reconditioning and replace with a serviceable recharged unit.

7. Examine for obvious physical damage, corrosion, leaking, worn hoses or clogged nozzle.

8. Ensure pressure gauge reading or indicator is in the operational range or position (gas type extinguishers).

9. Replace any damaged unit immediately with a serviceable recharged unit. Take any of the above extinguishers to supplier for reconditioning and hydrotesting. Record in the applicable record any extinguisher that requires servicing.

10. For ANSUL type extinguishers, ensure hose is clear and powder fluffy.

11. Date and initial the card attached to the replacement.

12.Every fire extinguisher should have a pull-pin and seal installed to prevent the charging cylinder from being inadvertently activated.

13.The extinguisher should have identification stickers or placards that indicate what type it is (A, ABC or BC) and what extinguishing agent should be used. Those units without identification should be sent to a service depot to be identified and labeled.

14.If the fill or cup or body threads are damaged, the extinguisher must be destroyed.

15.All fire extinguishing equipment to be inspected yearly by a certified inspector.
