Part II - Researching the News – Identifying Societal Problems and Public Policy Issues.

Objective – Find a second news story documenting your societal problem. The story can be from the same newspaper or a different newspaper. Complete the same steps as before.

You may work with a partner, but both must complete this template – but print out the story only once. BE SURE to save this document on 365 or your usb drive.

Part I.

1. Review a newspaper websites – such as NPR News, Reuters, AP News, USAToday, New York Times, Syracuse / Post Standard, Washington Post or Google New Link.

2. Choose one of the following societal categories: Crime, Education, Environment, Health, Housing, Jobs and Economic Development, or Poverty.

3. Find a news story from one of these categories that highlight a societal problem. Example too much garbage, too much taxes, too much climate change , not enough jobs, etc.

4. Once you have found a news article – copy a quote / evidence from source illustrating the societal problem. – Also Print only the page that has the quote
