Dear XXX Civic Association

Dear XXX Civic Association.

We wanted to let you know about a food drive that Troop YYY will be conducting in our neighborhood on November 11, 2017. Scouting For Food is a food drive in which Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts all around the metropolitan area collect food donations for local area food banks. Troop YYY will be covering our neighborhood, and that unit is made up of Scouts from Arlington, mostly from the ZZZ elementary school areas.

On November 5, Scouts, (with some help by parents), will distribute “Scouting For Food” bags to homes across our neighborhood. On November 11, the Scouts (with some help from parents) will come through the neighborhood to collect donations.

If you are interested in donating food, please place your donations in the Scouting For Food bag that was distributed to your house and place outside your front door by 9AM on Saturday morning, November 11. On Saturday morning the Scouts will come by to collect donations, starting around 9AM. Our Scouts will be in pairs, in Uniform, and will be accompanied by parents in automobiles. Scouts will NOT be knocking on your door to solicit contributions. If your donation is not picked up by noon on Saturday November 11, please contact Troop YYY Scouting For Food Coordinator, WWW or email VVVVV and we will send a scout and parent to pick up your donation and take it to the food bank.

Canned or boxed goods, are preferred (pasta, peanut butter, breakfast food, tuna, soup, fruit, beans). Plastic jars are fine but please do not donate glass jars, paper products or toiletries (AFAC’s system isn’t set up for those.) If you wish to donate more than one bag of food, please put outside your front door with note on it saying that it’s a donation to Scouting For Food.

Donations collected in Arlington go to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). Last year the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venture Crews in Arlington county collected and delivered over 52,000 pounds of food to AFAC. AFAC provides supplemental groceries to Arlington families in need and is currently serving 2,000+ client families a week. The most needed food items are canned proteins (tuna, chicken, salmon), low sodium soup, cooking oil in plastic bottles, and peanut butter in plastic jars. For more information about AFAC, go to www.afac.org

Thank you for your very important donations to the food bank.
