Education and Training Essential Desirable

Good standard of basic written and spoken Training courses in early years, eg. working with parents, English behaviour management, first aid, ICT…

Recognised Level 2 qualification relevant to early Level 3 qualification relevant to Early Years years. Applications will also be considered if the candidate is working towards Level 3

Relevant Experience Essential Desirable

Direct experience of children aged birth to eight Supporting and extending children’s all round development years through a stimulating and challenging environment both inside and out Ability to recognise and respond to children’s needs, interests and development Working with children with English as an additional language or with additional educational needs

Knowledge/ Aptitudes Essential Desirable

Knowledge of child development Ability to form appropriate relationships and to communicate with adults and children Knowledge of Early Years Foundation Stage

Ability to work as part of a team Awareness of issues or regulations in early years services, eg. children’s rights or health, safety and hygiene regulations, Ability to think about and talk about your work safeguarding

Ongoing commitment to professional development, eg. through training days

Commitment to promoting the setting’s vision and values throughout your work

Commitment to equal opportunities and provision that responds to each individual child and family

Commitment to including children with differing needs in the setting

Our selection process will assess rigorously all candidates’ suitability and their commitment to safeguarding children. This will include:  Identifying gaps and anomalies in career histories;

 Asking referees specific questions about:

o Reasons to doubt candidates honesty, trustworthiness or reliability; o Whether candidates are currently the subject of any form of disciplinary or competency inquiry or warning; o Any disciplinary offences relating to children including any in which the penalty is “time expired”; o Any child protection concerns.
