Action Items: Curriculum Proposals

College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Disestablishment of an academic unit Department of Mathematics and Statistics College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Establishment of an academic unit School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Establishment of a minor Romanian

All curricular proposals on the consent agenda were approved as submitted.

A motion was made and seconded to approve these curricular proposals.

The motion was approved by unanimous voice vote.

New Course Proposals

W. P. Carey School of Business HSM 578 Managing Clinical Trials WPC 302 Honors Professional Development

Committee members raised a question about HSM 578, as it relates to the number of hours the course is taught as described in the syllabus.

After a brief discussion, there was a motion to conditionally approve HSM 578, pending a revised syllabus. The updated syllabus will be sent to Heather Hoffart.

A motion was made to conditionally approve HSM 578. A motion to conditionally approve was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous voice vote.

WPC 302 was approved as submitted.

A motion was made to approve this course proposal. A motion to approve was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous voice vote.

Mary Lou Fulton College of Education DCI 451 Design Research and Educational Gaming Practicum RDG 440 Computer Gaming, Learning and Literacy

A motion was made to approve these course proposals. A motion to approve was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous voice vote. Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering CON 100 Introduction to Construction CSE 522 Real-time Embedded Systems CSE 530 Embedded Operating System Internals

A motion was made to approve CON 100, CSE 522 and CSE 530 as submitted. A motion to approve was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous voice vote.

CSE 552 Randomized & Approximation Algorithms IEE 620 Optimization I IEE 670 Mathematical Statistics

Committee members asked several questions regarding the grading process and projects relating to CSE 552.

Pending clarification of an amended syllabus (to be submitted to Heather Hoffart), there was a motion to conditionally approve CSE 552.

A motion was made to conditionally approve CSE 552. A motion to conditionally approve was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous voice vote.

It was suggested by CAPC that IEE 620 Optimization I, should be tabled until the October 16, 2008 CAPC meeting, or until additional, requested information is received (to be submitted to Heather Hoffart).

CAPC would like clarification regarding approval by the current chair of the department, clarification of the pre-requisite issue, and how this course relates to Industrial Engineering.

A motion was made to table IEE 620 pending receipt of additional information. A motion to table was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous voice vote.

IEE 670 Mathematical Statistics

After a lengthy discussion regarding the need for students to understand theory when taking this course, and how this course applies to the principles of Industrial Engineering, a motion was made to approve.

A motion was made to approve this course proposal. A motion to approve was made, seconded, and approved by majority voice vote.

Pending clarification of an amended syllabus as it relates to the grading policy based upon the instructor of record (to be submitted to Heather Hoffart), there was a motion to conditionally approve JMC 478.

A motion was made to conditionally approve JMC 478. A motion to conditionally approve was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous voice vote.
