Date: Wednesday, February 4th, 2015 Time: 815-10am Location: The Performing Arts Center Foyer (“PAC”) Price: There is no charge for this morning event Please dress comfortably in flexible clothing

Join the RCDS Environmental Committee for a very unique and special morning with fellow RCDS parent, acupuncturist and Chinese medicine and Quigong practitioner, James Elkin, as we learn about and experience the benefits of Quigong.

Per James, Chinese culture is interwoven with a few simple concepts that show up in several areas like medicine (acupuncture and herbs), design and engineering (feng shui), art and government. Some would argue that feng shui and medicine are the same thing. One aspect of medicine is called Qigong (literally translated as "the cultivation of Qi"). Qigong comprises exercises (physical and/or meditative) whose purpose is to enhance and direct Qi in the body as a way of healing or preventing future complications.

Mr. Elkin will lead a discussion on Qi and Qigong, interspersed with exercises and meditations. You will leave this event knowing what sorts of things to expect (physically and emotionally) when the Qi in your body is out of balance, and how to correct the imbalance using Dao Yin Qi Gong exercises.

Mr. Elkin's first exposure to Chinese medicine and Qigong was in 1985 when he started studying Taiji Quan in Hoboken, NJ. Since then, he has studied acupressure, feng shui, Chinese herbology and Qigong. While in acupuncture school, he married the daughter of a recognized Qigong master. He received his MS in acupuncture and his license to practice acupuncture in New York State in 2000 and made that his primary career in 2004. He and his wife currently partner a practice of Chinese medicine, Qigong and feng shui in Hartsdale. Mr. Elkin has taught Taiji and Qigong since the 90's.
