Dear Miss Graham

Freedom of Information Request

Thank you for your email 8 February 2012, in which you asked for information from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).

“Please can you inform me of the total cost to the government for the five year probe and subsequent tax evasion trial of Mr Harry Redknapp”.

Your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

I can confirm that the department holds some of the information that you have asked for, and I am pleased to provide this to you.

Based on the 2010/11 average daily costs of a circuit judge sitting in the crown court together with the costs of a clerk, associate, administration, stationery, IT and utilities of £2,059, the cost of the Harry Redknapp trial equates to £36,672. These costs are direct costs only and do not include any assessment of overhead costs.

With regard to the total cost to the government the Ministry of Justice does not hold any further information. You may wish to make a Freedom of Information request to the CPS and HMRC, as they may hold some information you have asked for.

You can make a request to the CPS by emailing it to the Freedom of Information Unit at [email protected] or posting it to: The Freedom of Information Unit CPS Headquarters Rose Court 2 Southwark Bridge London SE1 9HS
