1. Setup of iTunes preferences

a. Launch iTunes b. Select iTunes menu c. Select preferences d. Select “General” and change the following a. Library Name = Teacher’s Library b. Check the following: a. Movies b. Podcasts c. iTunes U d. AudioBooks e. Applications c. Uncheck “Check for new software updates automatically d. Select “Payback” and change the following b. Check “Sound Enhancer” and leave at default c. Check “Sound Check” d. Change “Play Movies and TV Shows” to: a. “in a separate window” e. Change “Play Music Videos” to: a. “in a separate window” f. Check “Show closed captioning when available” e. Select “Store” and change the following: b. Ensure that all selections are unchecked f. Select “Parental” and change the following b. Disable: a. Radio b. Shared Libraries c. Rating for: a. Canada b. Check “Show content ratings in Library d. Content Restrictions: a. Enable “Movies” change to G b. Enable “TV shows to” to G c. Enable “Applications to” to 12+ d. Enable “Restrict explicit content” e. Lock the settings by clicking on the lock icon g. Select “Apple TV” and change the following b. Uncheck “Look for Apple TV’s” h. Select “Devices” and change the following b. Uncheck “Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically i. Click “OK”

2. Configuration of iTunes SideBar

c. Delete the following “Playlists”: b. 90’s Music c. Classical Music d. Music Videos e. My Top Rated f. Top 25 Most Played d. Ensure that the following playlists are listed: b. Recently Added c. Recently Played 3. Creation of iTunes Account

The creation of the iTunes account is based on the School. In order to create an iTunes account without inputting credit card information do the following:

c. Go to the “iTunes Store” located on the sidebar in iTunes d. In the right hand corner enter the following in “Store Search” b. Doodle Buddy e. Under the “Application” Category. Find Doodle Buddy and click “Free” f. On the “Sign in to download from the iTunes Store” dialog box will appear. b. Click on the “Create New Account” button c. Click “Continue” on the “Welcome to the iTunes Store” page d. Check the “I have read and agree to the iTunes Terms and Conditions” e. Click “Continue” f. Enter the following information on the “Create iTunes Store Account (Apple ID)” page. Note: Information entered is based on school name, school address and school email. a. Email Address = school email address b. Password = Elibom + school code c. Verify = Elibom + school code d. Question = What is the project? e. Digital Citizenship f. Enter birthday = Day = 1, Month = January g. Uncheck the following a. “New release and additions to the iTunes Store” b. “New, software updates, special offers, and information about related products and services from Apple.” h. Click “Continue” e. On the “Provide a Payment Method” page, do the following. e. Payment Method g. Select “None” f. Address (This will change based on school information) g. Title “Mr” h. First “Name of School” i. Last Name “School” j. Address “School Address” k. City “Calgary” l. Province “Alberta” m. Postal Code “School Postal Code” n. Phone “School phone number” o. Click “Continue” g. Once the account creation is complete, a verification email will be sent to the school’s email address. School admin needs to verify the creation account by clicking on the link in the email. Once this is complete, do the following: g. Go to iTunes Store, in the sidebar a. In the right hand corner, click on “Sign In” b. Apple ID: Enter email address of the school c. Password: School password d. Click “Sign In”

4. Application Download

d. Go to the “iTunes Store” located on the sidebar in iTunes e. In the right hand corner enter the following in “Store Search” e. Doodle Buddy f. Under the “Application” Category. Find Doodle Buddy and click “Free” g. Do the above for all following applications e. A recommended list of applications can be found on the Project Server.

5. Registration of iPod (Optional: Activation Mode only of iPods instruction below in section Activation-only mode)

d. Plug-in iPod to Master Machine. If iPod starts to sync, cancel the sync. e. Select the iPod on the sidebar e. On the Welcome page, Click “Never Register” or “Register Later”

Never Register” may not appear but “Register Later” will. In order for this registration page to never appear. This process of selecting “Register Later” may take 2 or 3 more times before it states “Never Register”

f. On the “Set up Your iPod” page g. Select “Set up a new iPod” h. Click on Continue g. On the “Set Up Your iPod” page g. Name: Enter name of iPod located on the back of iPod h. Uncheck all options i. Click “Done” j. If syncing starts, Cancel syncing.

6. Restriction settings on iPod

d. Restriction settings will be preformed on one iPod for the initial “Backup” image. e. On the iPod, change the following: e. Settings icon g. Wi-Fi a. Connect to school network h. General a. Wallpaper a. Change to Earth b. Auto-Lock a. 5 min c. Restrictions a. Set password to 1440 b. Verify password to 1440 c. In-App Purchases = OFF d. Rating For = Canada e. Music & Podcasts = OFF f. Movies = PG g. TV Shows = PG h. Apps = 12+ c. Create Admiral User Policy (AUP) link. This will create an icon on the iPod. a. On the iPod, click on the Safari icon b. Connect to the Project Server AUP link b. http://server address c. Click the plus button on the bottom of the screen d. Click on “Add to Home Screen” e. Change the name to “CBE AUP” f. Click “Add” d. Reset Network Settings (Optional if not setup at school location) a. Setting icon b. General c. Reset a. Reset Network Setting b. Touch “Reset Network Settings”

7. Settings in iTunes & initial iPod

b. Ensure that iPod is connected to Master machine c. Select “iTunes Store” in Sidebar a. Sign out of account d. Plug-in iPod to Master Machine. e. Select the iPod in the sidebar. f. Click on Summary Tab a. Select “Open iTunes when this iPod is attached” b. Deselect all other options if checked g. Click on Applications Tab a. Select “Sync Applications” b. Arrange Apps on right hand side to school’s requirements h. Click on Music Tab a. Select “Sync Music” b. Select “Selected playlist, artists, and genres” c. Select “Include voice memos” d. Under “Playlists” select the following playlists b. Audiobooks c. Recently Added d. Recently Played i. Click on Movies Tab a. Ensure that “Sync Movies” is deselected j. Click on TV Shows Tab a. Ensure that “Sync TV Shows” is deselected k. Click on Podcasts Tab a. Select “Sync Podcasts” b. Select “Automatically include all unplayed episodes of all podcasts” l. Click on iTunes Tab a. Ensure that “Sync iTunes U” is deselected. m. Click on Photos Tab a. Select “Sync photos from” b. Change the pull down menu to “iPhoto b. Select “All photos and albums” n. Click on Info Tab a. Scroll down to “Web Browser” title b. Select “Sync Safari bookmarks” o. Click “Apply” This will sync the iPod with the Master Machine iTunes Library.

8. Creating backup of initial iPod

b. Select iPod in Sidebar a. Control click the iPod and select “Back up”. This will create an image of the settings on the iPod.

9. Restore initial iPod from backup

b. Select iPod in Sidebar a. Control click the iPod and select “Restore from Backup” b. Select the backup from the initial iPod. c. Click “Restore” d. Test to ensure that backup is correct on iPod.

10. Sync Cart: Multiply iPod “Backup” restore and Sync

b. Plug in iPods into Sync Cart c. Select each iPod and perform “Section 5, Registration of Master iPod” or Activation-only mode in the “Activation-only mode” section below. d. Select each iPod and perform “Section 9, Restore Master iPod from backup” e. Sync all iPods.

Activation-only Mode:

1. To turn on activation-only mode on Mac OS X:

a. Make sure that itunes is not running and then open Terminal. b. In the Terminal, enter this command. This is case sensitive.

To turn activation-only mode on:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes StoreActivationMode -integer 1

2. Connect the iPod (make sure the computer is connected to the internet). iTunes will open and activate the iPod. A message will appear when its successfully.

3. Disconnect the iPod.

4. When you are done activating all the iPod. Make sure to go back to the Terminal and turn off the activation-only mode.

5. Quit iTunes

6. Open Terminal

7. In the Terminal, enter this command.

To turn activation-only mode off:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes StoreActivationMode -integer 0

Applying Updates on iPods: (Optional, otherwise this can be done individual on each iPod)

1. Go to iTunes preferences and go to the "General" and check of "Automatically check for updates"

2. Connect the iPod. A dialog box should pop up and ask you to update the iPod. If this does not show up, you can select the device in the sidebar and select the "Summary Tab" and click "Check for update"

3. Select "Download only"

4. After downloading, the update will reside in: ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/ ( ~ stands for the users home directory ) 5. Select the iPod in the side bar

6. Click on the "Summary" Tab

7. You will see a button "Update" or "Check for Update". While holding down the "option" key, click on "Update" or "Check for Update".

8. A file selector dialog appears, go to ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/ and select the file.

9. Once its done, check to see if the update worked by going to the "Summary" tab.
