Kinematics and projectile motion

For each problem: On a separate piece of paper  Draw a picture  Label variables  Make a list of variables  Identify variable you are looking for  Write a statement as to how you are going to approach this problem  Select formula and write it down  Re-arrange formula to solve for your variable  Put numbers into equation  Solve and identify units

1) A child is sliding down a 10m hill on a sled. Their acceleration down the hill is 1m/s2. When they get to the bottom of the hill they slide along horizontally with an acceleration of - 1.2 m/s2. a) How far will they slide on the flat portion? b) What is their velocity at the bottom of the hill(before negative acceleration begins) c) How much time does the entire trip take?

2) Mr. Beland has a dream to be shot out of a cannon. He uses a 10m long cannon that gives him an initial velocity of 20m/s . The cannon is tilted at an angle of 60 ° and a net will be placed 30m from the cannon.(on the other side of a flaming pit filled with sharks) a) What is his acceleration in the cannon? b) At what height should the net be placed in order to catch him?

3) Alex Rodriguez is at Fenway Park for the playoffs. He hits a towering shot into the left field. He hits the ball with a speed of 32m/s at an angle of 45 degrees. There is a famous wall in left field called the green monster. The wall is 94.5 m away from home plate and 11.3 m tall. Does he have a homerun or is he once again foiled at Fenway?

4) A golfer chips the ball up onto the green . She hits the ball at an angle of 60 degrees. It lands on the green 1.5 seconds later at a position that is 0.5 m above her original position. a) What is the initial velocity(x and y combined)? b) How far away from the green is she?
