Old Business  Approved minutes from previous meeting.  Response tool survey results – Melissa o Most requested issues by faculty . Integration with MyClasses . Functionality/Features (broadly) . Technical issues. . Suggestion: “Plickers” (Physical codes read by photographing the classroom with students holding them up); however, this tool cannot integrate with Canvas. o Because of the short timeframe before support for TurningPoint 5 ends (June 5), the decision was made to pilot the new version of the tool this term, through BIOL101. The new version is called “TurningPoint Cloud”, although it doesn’t really ‘live’ in the cloud. . Every person, including the instructor, needs an account. . Responseware feature allows simultaneous polling from two different locations. . Company representatives have been invited to meet with the purpose of discussing licensing and fees. . One of the biggest issues faced by ID&D during implementation was that the classroom receivers can only work on one version of the software. Therefore, classes other than BIOL101 that take place in DH123 had to be migrated to the new system as well. . In this case, however, the tool was used via an instructor license, which allows a certain number of students per instructor. Funding was provided by ID&D this semester. o Students have the option of using a traditional clicker, a cell phone app, or both. . The cellphone license has different costs depending on the time frame purchased: a semester, a year, or longer. . This format would preclude any sale-back or returns. . Depending on usage, students could likely end up paying more than our previous system, although it could end up being cheaper for them as well. o Question: What if the faculty member does not want to allow the use of cell phones in their classroom? . The committee recommends having a standardized policy at the University level for using this specific tool, where the faculty member has to allow use of the cell phone app in their class. . This will prevent students from purchasing the license and then not being able to use it. . It was noted that only a small percentage of the University courses actually use clickers, but they tend to be the ones with the largest class sizes. Therefore, it is likely that a student might use the clicker system in more than one class, with different instructors. . A proposal was considered that the University only allow the traditional clickers and nothing else; however, due to how the new system is set up, it would be expensive and implementation would be difficult due to technical reasons. A license for the students or faculty would still be required. . Melissa committed to creating a short video for students detailing their cost options. o Canvas integration so far has not presented any issues. o The only complaints/problems so far have been limited to the impossibility of running two versions of the TurningPoint software on the same receiver. o Overall, the committee believes that changing to a new system would be expensive for the University (new receivers, etc.), and time-consuming for faculty (all materials would need to be redone or transferred to a hypothetical new system). Faculty seem to be happy with the current system, and the new one is very similar. o The committee voted unanimously to recommend staying with TurningPoint and upgrading to TurningPoint Cloud.

 Synchronous Tool Discussion (Adobe Connect compared to Conferences in MyClasses) – Melissa o The only practical difference between Adobe Connect and Big Blue Button/Conferences on Canvas (as is) is the lifetime of recordings. Adobe Connect allows to keep recordings indefinitely, whereas in Conferences they only last for 14 days. This feature is required by many users of the Synchronous Tools. o Unlimited storage/lifetime for recordings can also be achieved in Conference, but the feature needs to be purchased separately. o Another feature not available in Conferences is breaking out into groups from a session as in Adobe Connect. However, this doesn’t appear to be an issue, because a separate conference can be initiated for specific users instead (basically, it would just involve a couple more clicks). o Adobe Connect is currently used mainly by the Writing Center, ID&D, and department conferences, i.e. outside of classes. o Usage of Adobe Connect has dropped drastically since Conferences has been active. . Conferences has actually worked better for our Germany program than Connect. o It was proposed that the number of seats/licenses for Adobe Connect be reduced or even eliminated as a campus-wide offering, due to duplication and the costs involved for Adobe Connect. Individual departments would still be able to purchase their own licenses of they so desired. . The only question remaining is the cost for keeping recordings over 14 days on Conferences.

 Permanently tabled: Online test security software. The University needs to settle on its test security policy (both on-campus and online) before the technology aspect can be discussed. Also, it appears other bodies on campus will begin discussions on this topic.

New Business  None

Adjournment: 12:00pm Next Meeting – April 15, 2016, 11:00 AM Section 16. Learning With Technology Committee  The purposes of the committee shall be to: A. Review and make recommendations to the University administration concerning the use of technology in face-to-face and online teaching and learning, including but not limited to planning and policies; B. Serve as a liaison between the Faculty and Information Technology Services regarding learning technology issues; and C. Serve in an advisory capacity to the Director of the Teaching and Learning Resources about issues regarding technology and learning.  The Committee shall have seven voting members: seven members of the Faculty serving three- year terms: four elected from and by their respective schools, one elected from the library faculty, two elected at-large , two to three retiring annually. The Chief Information Officer or his/her designee, and the Director of the Teaching and Learning Resources or his/her designee shall be ex officio non-voting members. Should an elected faculty member not be the Designated Senator a non-voting Designated Senator shall also serve on the committee. The committee shall elect its chairperson annually.

 The purpose of the committee shall also include reviewing and making recommendations for online teaching and learning. In September 2004, the provost created an ad hoc Online Learning Committee to develop a policy and guidelines for online learning at Salisbury University. While the work of the ad hoc committee has been completed, we foresee many continuing issues regarding the implementation of online learning at SU. The members of the Learning Technology Committee believe that this committee is the appropriate venue to assist in addressing online learning at SU.

 As more and more information is available in electronic format, access for online and face to face students and faculty is an ongoing concern. The committee believes that a representative from the library on the Learning Technology Committee is warranted.
