LTGA Annual Meeting September 9, 2017
Wendy Melcher called the meeting to order.
2016 Minutes – Jenny Elliott Motion made to dispense with the reading of last year’s minutes as they were posted on the website for several months at the end of last season.
2017 Treasurer’s Report – Jenny Elliott We started the year with $4621, membership fees totaled $1870. Our normal expenses include printing and postage for the membership book, score cards, reorder checks, and miscellaneous office supplies. Our current balance through today’s event is $5295, but some of that is money collected for the October tournament. Jenny reminded everyone that today’s luncheon was paid for by our membership dues. She stated that we always try to break even on all our tournaments, but sometimes we add extra into the prize distribution to keep payouts around 40% of the field. Our end of season balance is necessary to give us enough revenue to cover the early deposit requests for next season’s tournament bookings. The final treasurer’s balance will be posted on the website following the end of season. A motion was made and passed to accept the report as submitted.
Tournament Summary – Juna Orr 1. Juna thanked everyone for their participation in making the 29th season another big success. We had a slow start to the season with the April and May tournaments being cancelled due to snow. We were able to re-schedule the April tournament, so we still played 6 events this year. Juna thanked Jenny for all her extra administrative work in moving money and keeping everything straight. She also acknowledged several people who were instrumental in helping her throughout the year: Wendy Melcher, for taking pictures and keeping the website updated, JoJo Honeyman for her help with speedy input of the scores in the computer, and a team of helpers including Jill Kirkpatrick, Judy Maillis, Dolly Moreno, D’Ann Kimbrel, Linda Powell, Sue Knutson, Cindy Joos, Linda Loveland, and Robin Walker with their assistance to the scoring and Sandy Schnitzer and Barb Irwin who also assisted with tournament rulings. 2. Jenny also added that the following people helped with check-in activities and prize money distribution: Paula Sinn-Penfold, Susan Schroeder, Diane Ferrara, Karen Leuschlel, Laurie Schlager, Gretchen Godfrey, Laurie Maul, and Nina Dulacki. LTGA 2017 Golf Season 3. Juna reported that the average number of players for this year’s events was 112, up from 108 in 2016. The highest turnouts were for the two events in June, 121 at Riverdale Dunes and 122 at The Broadlands. The lowest was last October at Lake Valley, 68 and today’s event at Legacy Ridge with 99 players. We try to keep the average entry fee around $70 and this year it was $69.57, thanks to The Broadlands at $62 and Indian Tree $65. The highest price was $75 at Saddleback and Riverdale Dunes. 4. Juna also distributed a survey for feeback on the courses played this year and suggestions for next year. She encouraged everyone to provide their candid feedback. Based on the feedback from last year’s survey we scheduled Riverdale Dunes, The Broadlands, and Todd Creek for this year. The survey also lists several courses that are not interested in hosting our tournaments. Since we always try to schedule our tournaments as a shotgun on Saturdays, many courses do not want to support that request.
Old/New Business
1. Juna led a discussion regarding playing tournaments in April. In 2016 and 2017 the April tournament has been cancelled due to snow. In the years prior to that, we have played the April event in less than favorable conditions. She stated that the current officers have given this a lot of thought and their recommendation going forward is to eliminate the April tournament and hold 6 tournaments during the season, one per month starting in May and ending in October. After discussing other possibilities including multiple events per month, it was agreed upon that one per month is the preferred number (especially for those doing the work). Our current LTGA By-Laws state that we will have at least 5 tournaments during the season, so there was no need to take any vote on making this change.
2. Wendy announced to the group that Juna Orr has decided to step down after 10 years of being the LTGA Tournament Director. Both Wendy and Jenny expressed their heartfelt thanks to Juna for all the work she has done to grow and enhance the LTGA organization. Her excellent work in conducting tournaments has provided a very positive working relationship with all the golf courses on the LTGA schedule for the past 10 years.
3. Nominations for Officers for 2018 – D’Ann Kimbrel D’Ann Kimbrel reported that all the existing officers were asked to remain in their current positions, however Juna has decided to step away. Juna has been working with Judy Maillis during the season to learn the tournament Director job and strongly recommended her to take the position over. There were no other nominations received from the floor, so the following slate was presented and voted on. LTGA 2017 Golf Season
