NC State University’s annual Earth Day celebration has been expanded to a full week of events beginning Monday, April 21st through Friday, April 25th and is expected to be the largest Earth Day event in the Triangle. NC State University is inviting the campus and public to participate in the many exciting events taking place all over campus during Earth Week 2008. The Earth Week committee has pulled together a broad spectrum of events with an overall theme of “Energy. Environment. Everyone.” designed to draw on the concepts of the NCSU Year of Energy.

This Earth Week Celebration is a product of dedicated and diverse groups of students, staff and faculty who have collaborated to organize a week packed with activities to educate and engage the campus in carrying out the University's commitment to environmental sustainability.

There will be a wide variety of events taking place throughout the week including speakers, tours, movies, music, art, dining and other brickyard activities. A full calendar of these events as well as additional information about Earth Week is available at www.ncsu.edu/earthday. The University is asking for everyone to join in on some of the exciting opportunities including:

 An Electronics Recycling Drive on Centennial Campus that is free and open to the public.  Speakers Dr. Jay Baliga and NC Representative Pricey Harrison with food receptions taking place prior.  A Provost Fellows Speaker Series event featuring Dr. Robert Jackson with food reception prior.  Three movies including Kilowatt Ours and Everything's Cool at the Campus Cinema and End of Suburbia on Harris Field.  Campus Bike Day on the brickyard including the 2nd Annual "Poker Ride" as well as bike vendors, tune-ups, trail maps and more.  Personal Energy Day on the brickyard and is coordinated by the College of Management BUS 465 class.  NCSU Sustainability Day on the brickyard that will feature undergraduate and graduate level sustainability research.  Three guided tours including the NCSU Yarborough Steam Plant, Centennial Campus’s Advanced Energy and the NC Solar Center, which includes a complimentary green luncheon.  Earth Feast being hosted by University Dining and will feature sustainable food options and information in campus dining halls.  Two art events including a brickyard progressive art mural by the students of Fred Olds Elementary and a Recycled Art Exhibition at Talley Student Center.  The Energizing Opportunities Symposium is a panel discussion that sponsored by Net Impact with a Meet and Greet reception following.  A free music event, “Smells Like Green Spirit”, in the North Talley Plaza will feature 6 talented Triangle area bands.  The Annual Earth Day Brickyard Celebration is a full day of vendors featuring environmental information, demonstrations, food, give-a-ways, awards, games and more!

Earth Week is made possible through the generous contributions of the following organizations: Triangle Transit Authority (redefinetravel.org), Triangle American Institute of Architects, State Energy Office, TS Designs, The Pour House, NCSU Graduate School, News Services, NCSU Sustainability Office and Campus Environmental Sustainability Team, The NC Solar Center, University Dining, Student Activities, Office of Energy Management and Waste Reduction and Recycling.
