Gallatin Valley Human Resource Association Chapter Chat Update Submitted by: Diane Letendre, President

May 2011 – August 2011

 In response to the survey, 68.3% of the members indicated they would like after hour networking events. We hosted after hours events for the months of February, March and April. Due to the low attendance at these events, we cancelled the event in May. We will likely discontinue the events in the future..  The GVHRA Chapter achieved “Super Star” status (+10%) for the months of April and May and “Star” status (+6-9%) for the months of June and July for SHRM membership.  The Chapter recently received a certificate recognizing the Chapter’s “Commitment to Grow the in chapter SHRM membership”.  In follow up on the28 at large members that invited them to join GVHRA, five members joined GVHRA and one is pending.  The GVHRA Chapter is the recipient of the 2010 Chapter Champion award from SHRM Foundation.  We hosted a July meeting (not typical for summer months) with Jim Nys presenting for 2 hours on Legislative Updates. We had 68 in attendance.  The GVHRA chapter participated in the locally sponsored “Vet Stand Down” event (providing multiple services to Veterans). Six board members and six GVHRA members volunteered to host the booth for the event and offered job hunting skills, offers to review resumes, etc. We were a last minute attendee (and not as prepared as we would have liked) however, we are anticipating attending next year and providing more services and resources.  Monthly lunch meeting topics: May: The Social Context of Performance Appraisals (1 strategic credit) June: The WorkRite Cycle and Speech Acts… How Our Language Helps Us Get Results (2 hour presentation – 2 general credits) o July: Legislative Update, Jim Nys – 2 strategic credits o August: (no meeting summer break)

August 2011 – October 2011

The Gallatin Valley Human Resource Association Chapter has achieved the following this past quarter:

 The GVHRA Chapter achieved “Super Star” status (+12.5%) for the month of August. Septembers numbers were not available at this time.  The chapter President was invited to join the HAVEN (Domestic Violence Organization) Board of Directors effective October. The goal is to get the local membership “mentoring” clients of HAVEN.  Monthly meetings have seen an increase in attendance: o July - 68 attendees o August – no meeting o September - 29 attendees o October - 55 attendees  Monthly lunch meeting topics: o August: (no meeting summer break) o September: HR Bingo – no credits – well received and fun. o October: The New FMLA Regulations that Affect Your Workplace – 1 general credit – Holland & Hart (presenter) o November: Non-Monetary Rewards/Engagement Panel Discussion o December: Holiday Party – John Parkes (Topic TBD) – late afternoon event. Combo food bank donation and small meeting fee.  Five GHVRA Board members have asked to rotate off the board, so we will be recruiting for CLA’s for secretary, treasurer, membership, education/certification and Legislative chair.  The board is considering a membership drive this fall. So far, it might look like - - going out to businesses that do not have an HR per se, but an individual doing HR. Also, going to the newer companies and meeting and greeting…..
