TITLE: Elementary Instructional Coach

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

EMPLOYEE STATUS: 185 day contract

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT STATUS: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Indiana Department of Education certification in Elementary Education. 2. Minimum three years of classroom teaching experience. 3. Proven leadership and facilitation skills. 4. Proven leader in implementing effective instructional strategies. 5. Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff. 6. Ability to analyze, develop, and implement instructional strategies and intervention plans. 7. Good health, high moral character, and a good attendance record.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Serves as the instructional coach to provide support for classroom teachers to ensure the most effective methods, techniques, strategies, and interventions are used in delivering curriculum to students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Maintains respect at all times for confidential information. 2. Develops and maintains trusting, supportive and professional relationships with all staff members. 3. Provides ongoing support to teachers for successful implementation of math and language arts curriculum, particularly in district-wide programs such as Everyday Math and 6+1 Writing. 4. Provides introductory training and support to teachers new to curriculum programs in the district. 5. Plans, develops, and facilitates collaborative Professional Learning Community meetings that are centered on appropriate and effective instructional strategies. 6. Plans, hosts, and facilitates professional development opportunities (i.e. workshops, training sessions, in-service days). 7. Models math and literacy lessons for teachers and follows up with reflective dialogue. 8. Co-teaches with classroom teachers during math and/or literacy instruction and provides opportunities for pre and post conferences. 9. Fosters and supports teachers during problem solving and troubleshooting as obstacles occur throughout classroom implementation. 10. Provides teachers with necessary tools (materials, resources, etc.) for appropriate implementation of curricular programs. 11. Collaborates with all instructional coaches to share and discuss building and district- wide initiatives while addressing the short and long term goals within the coaching role. 12. Analyzes achievement data and discusses curricular programs and instructional strategies in order to ensure the fidelity of the school’s current school improvement plan. 13. Assists individual teachers and/or grade levels with the appropriate implementation of specific professional growth plans. 14. Provides introductory and ongoing learning opportunities for Instructional Assistants. 15. Provides district-wide opportunities for parents and community members to learn more about curricular programs (Family Math Nights, Coffee & Conversation, etc.)

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. 2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values. 3. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as directed.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue. 2. Occasional interaction among unruly children and adults.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. May require working under stressful conditions. 2. Requires ability to remain calm during periods of extreme situations. 3. Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range. 4. Requires occasional lifting of boxes or other items weighing up to 50 pounds
