MINUTES of Meeting - - 17 July 2006

Present - M Scott Chair , W Turnbull , G Carter , W N Wilson , D Spenceley , J Horner , I Burroughs , H Noble , A Weighell.

Apologies - L & M Irving, F Cuthbert, E Lee .

Mr. Len Chapman Sincere sadness was expressed on the death of one of the Founders of Stokesley Town Pride . Members spoke of their personal loss of a very good friend and neighbour - Len had a wealth of local knowledge, and his concern to preserve and enhance the town led him to promote and support many schemes and activities. A letter of condolence will be sent to Mrs D. Chapman

Matters arising. Coffee Morning date correction Is Friday 27 Oct

Garden Competition. cancellation-- No comments known from residents but concern over a D & S poster declaring APATHY The “Open Gardens” charity fundraising has full support of STP and is not to be confused with STP’s efforts to hold a garden compeition on same weekend.

Mrs M Stewart on retirement - Letter sent - 3 07 06 to Maureen.

Has received donation of £1500 from Parish Council , and acknowledged

Correspondence --Invite from Community. Care Association. - Special General. Meeting, 26 July . - Sec. has asked CCA to confirm with their

records that STP is not a member of CCA

Thursday Group - no report in absence of FC and EL

Concern re high level of water in River at west end of Levenside, aware that River Leven Group is to remove an unofficial “weir” that is restricting flow

Tubs/Plants - Only 6 subs still overdue . Informed School House Café that 2 tubs outside fence will be moved, one into their forecourt ,other to Halifax corner

Two volunteers will water Meadowfield roundabout.

Thought to be no response to appeal for more volunteers to water

Noted some tubs are dry, being missed from watering ,Sec to check rota details (while FC ill) to clarify which tubs have to be watered

Seats renovations still in hand with EL Parish have one new, (part of two for West Green) not yet in place.

Website - 186 hits in month.

WT has had request from Steven Brown ,Web Designer, a Stokesley resident ,who offers to redesign our website, free, as part of his portfolio, AGREED - WT to liaise with Steven.

AOB -

Stokesley Apple Orchard - - Mr Don Spenceley gave details of his plan to develop an apple orchard. Neasham Woodland would be an ideal site;. Full involvement of residents, especially schools, and local community agencies in grafting ,growing, maintenance, etc. Specialist groups, eg Northern Fruit Growers Group would be involved. A venue for events related to fruit, environment, wildlife, Would need support of Parish council which is responsible for the land.

AGREED S. T. P. would support the proposal

Town Signs need improvement eg low stone walling. Need for new sign at Tanton Rd entrance to town. Sec. to write to Parish/NYCC Highways.

Signpost at corner of North Rd has not yet been updated.. Sec to write again to Parish/HDC.

Need for new signpost on High St - -between Barclays/Cleaners , directing public via newly refurbished path to Town Close, Library, HDC offices, Health Centre etc.. Sec. to write to Parish/HDC/NYCC

Playing field entrance, off Silver St, needs repairs to ground around gate. Sec. to write to Parish Council

Christmas Lights --MS had letter from Barbara Day, resident. of West Green, seeking views and support for lighting the large tree on W. Green, instead of a Christmas Tree . She hopes to raise funds from local residents, will put proposals to August meeting of Parish Council.

Members felt that technical issues should be solved first, then we would be pleased to have plans in order to assess support..

AGREED this is not a matter STP would be involved in, but would support any scheme which improves the appearance of the town centre at Christmas.

River Leven W T reported that River Leven Group have approval from Parish Council for River enhancement project , Now need permission from Environment. Agency that has been applied for.

Town Close noted that there is no dropped kerb on North Rd path to entrance, need extension to double yellow lines to prevent parking at entrance to car park, muddy plot at entrance seems to have been missed by landscapers and needs planting or paving Sec. to write to HDC/NYCC
