Purpose: To establish guidelines of duties to be performed by Cath Lab staff in a timely and orderly manner to ensure optimal patient care and safety.

Supportive Data: 1. Specific roles of Monitor, Scrub, X-ray/Pan, Circulator. 2. Performed by RN and RT. 3. Medication administration and assessment by RN’s only. 4. Pain will be assessed pre, every 5 minutes during procedure and post procedure.

Steps Keypoints

MONITORING

1. Responsible for documentation of Cath procedure and recording hemodynamic pressures.

Pre cath assessment Includes LOC & pain status, Aldrete score, understanding of procedure, pertinent HX, IV sites/IVF’s, VS’s, Lab, pulses, respiratory status, appropriate permits, and allergies.

Intra cath assessment Vital signs for conscious Sedation, aldrete scoring, hemodynamics, equipment used, patient response to procedures.

Post cath assessment Alderete scoring if applicable; pain status;Achievement of SUBJECT: Duties of Cath Lab Personnel Page 2 of 2

groin hemostastis Patient teaching, transfer of patient to floor, report to receiving nurse.

SCRUB

1. Responsible for assisting the MD RN or RT during the procedure.

Pre cath Place sterile towels on drape; assist with connection of pressure lines to transducers; ensure system is free of air bubbles, cover image intensifier and shield, connect to injector; prepare equipment for use.

Intra cath Assist with use of equipment (i.e. guide wires, catheters, balloons, stents, etc).

Assist w/ watching patient’s hemodynamics.

Post cath Assist with or perform groin hemostasis; secure groin site post procedure; patient teaching; transfer of patient to stretcher.

CIRCULATE

1. Attends to patients needs Assess patients comfort status, hemodynamics, and respiratory status.

2. Administers medications as ordered by RN’s only physicians

3. Obtains necessary equipment
