Traip Academy/New Heights Experiential Classroom Channel Islands 2013 (rather comprehensive) Gear List We can provide items with *** Please Please Please don’t go out and spend a ton of money on gear… we have most everything. How to pack for the weird weather: It’s likely to be sunny & warm during the days (shorts and t shirts), and it gets very chilly at night (long johns, fleece top and bottom, wool hat, & gloves)  PICTURE ID  broken-in high (not low cut) hiking boots***  2nd pair of shoes for kayaking that will be wet (can be wetsuit booties, sandals or old sneakers. Cannot be flip flops)  socks- 2-3 pair of Wool, Synthetic, or Polypro that aren’t cotton*** (plus a couple cotton if you wish)  undies- Whatever makes you happy  1 or 2 swimsuits  Pants- 1 Pair Polypro long johns. Or fleece or wool pants*** 1 Pair Waterproof Rain Pants*** 1-3 Pair shorts  Shirts- 2-3 T-Shirts 1-2 Polypro Long John Tops (NO COTTON)*** 2- Wool or Fleece sweater/jacket (NO COTTON)*** 1 Waterproof rain jacket with a hood (no ponchos)***  1 “dress up at camp one Night” Outfit… whigs, dresses, crazy shoes, hats, etc.  winter hat***  1 pr mittens/gloves***  1 baseball hat or visor and 1 bandana***  SUNSCREEN (LOTS & LOTS!) at least spf 15. spf 30 is good.  toothpaste/toothbrush- don’t have it… don’t come! Optional: tiny soap, shampoo, deodorant  sunglasses  1 carry-on bag (this will need to fit all of your clothes, etc)  day pack (will be your 2nd carry-on bag for everything that didn’t fit in your carry-on)***  sleeping bag (rated to 20 degrees or warmer- no cotton)***  ground pad***  water carrying system- 70 ounces or more (Camel Back or 3 liter size Nalgene bottles or any combination thereof)***  cup (insulated is good), bowl, spoon (come with a fork, and we’ll make endless fun of you the entire week!)***  extra ziplocs and garbage bags  Flashlight or headlamp* (we have a few iffy headlamps)  All medications, including Tylenol, need to be held by staff. They need to be in their original containers, have your name printed on the outside of the bottle, & instructions from your parents regarding dosage and times to be given.

Optional:  crazy creek chair  any $ you want to bring (however there are very few opportunities to spend it)  pajamas  flip flops/sandals  book/journal/sketch pad  Camera- in a Ziploc or a waterproof bag Travel entertainment is at your option (we cannot guarantee the security of any items)
