2017 Youth Tour to Washington D.C.

June 3-7, 2017

Program Information & Application All Expense Paid Trip to Washington, D.C. Includes: airfare, food, lodging, activities, & transportation

Sponsored locally by Foundation for Rural Service 2017 Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. Sponsored Locally by NCTC, Your Membership Cooperative Trip Date: June 3-7, 2017 Application Deadline: Monday, March 10, 2017 Eligibility Applicant’s parents must be NCTC members for at least one year, and family must reside full-time in the cooperative’s service area. Two area high-school students will be sponsored this year. Other Program Requirements 1. Be a high-school student living full-time in NCTC’s service area. 2. Have at least a 3.25 GPA. 3. Must be 16 or 17 at time of trip and not turn 18 before June 3, 2017. 4. Exhibit demonstrated leadership in school activities. 5. Exhibit demonstrated interest in community service through volunteer activities. Application Requirements 1. Complete a Youth Tour Application. 2. Include with your application a brief interest letter, which states why you would like to attend and what your plans are beyond high school. 3. Include a recent school photograph (2 1/2” by 3 1/2” to remain the property of the Cooperative) or similar of yourself for the Youth Tour Booklet. 4. Include with your application a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school official. 5. Write an essay of up to 500 words typed that addresses the following topic: “Understanding Telephone Cooperatives: Past, Present, & Future” 5. Return these items to NCTC’s main office in envelope addressed NCTC - Washington D.C. Trip in person during business hours @ 872 Hwy 52 By-pass E, Lafayette, TN OR by mailing to PO Box 70, Lafayette, TN 37083 Transportation Arrangements In addition to full sponsorship of the tour for two students which includes hotel, all meals, and costs for all scheduled events, NCTC will pay the airfare to and from Washington, D.C., from the Nashville airport. Transportation to the airport will be provided if needed. Additional Information One NCTC employee will act as chaperone for the trip. You can go to www.frs.org and select “youth tour” to find out more information. Selection Process Each applicant will be awarded points based on each area; points will be totaled for scoring. In the case of a tie, an interview may be conducted with each of the qualifying applicants. Maximum points possible in each category is as follows: demonstrated leadership - 15, community service - 15, completion of application process - 10, letter of interest - 10, recommendation letter - 10, essay - 40.
