INDUSTRIES, INFRASTRUCTURE AND SECTORAL ADVANTAGES

7.1 Medium & Large Industries:

The state has 4 refineries, 2 paper mills, one cement plant, six LPG bottling plants, one fertliser unit, two units engaged in Oil & Natural Gas explorations under the Central Public Sector. There are 4 units in State Public sector comprising of activities of petro-chemicals, gas distribution, jute twine/fabric and polyester yarn making in the State. The state has about 115 medium & large industries with activities like manufacturing of cement, TMT bars , CPC , ORS, coke etc. List of large & Medium Industries are at Annexure- 7.1.

7.2 (a) Annual survey of Industries (ASI):

The annual survey of industries provides some basic characteristics of the industries under manufacturing sector. As per the information submitted by the DICCs of Assam, the state has 28681registered units (except Kokrajhar district) with an investment of Rs.2845.16 Cr. This sector provides employment to 140145 persons of the state. About 24.68% of the units belong to services sector activities and 75.32% of units are in the manufacturing sector. Detailed character of the sector is as follows:

It appears from the above that Kamrup, Dibrugarh & Tinsukia are the top three districts of Assam in terms of number of units, investment & employment followed by other districts. Districts having below 2% of industrial units are Nagaon, Dhemaji, Bongaigaon, Sivasagar, Karbi-Anglong, Morigaon , Hailakandi, Baska, Udalguri & Chirang.

7.6 Sectoral analysis of MSMEs in Assam District-wise sectoral industrial units is at Annexure-7.5. Sectoral analysis of the State is given below:

1. Agro Food & Beverages: Agro food and beverages sector has a total of 4839 units with an investment of Rs.73232.15 lakh and provides an employment to around 26160 persons. Share of this sector in terms of units is 16.87 %, in terms of investment 25.74% and in terms of employment it is about 18.67%. Under the agro food and beverages category, the following is the sub-sector analysis: a. Grain Milling sector: There are 2356 units under this sector comprising with Rice milling, par boiled rice mill, flour mill , dal mill and atta chaki. There are 1780 rice mills with an investment of Rs. 5527.92 lakh, 7 par boiled rice mills with an investment of Rs.1462.70 lakh. Others are 125 flour mills, 17 Dal mills and 427 atta chakis. Grain milling sector provides a total employment to 9688 people with rice mills providing the highest employment of 6347 followed by atta chaki with 1530 and flour mills with 1475 no of people. Par boiled rice mills employ 91 persons and Dal mills provide employment to 245 persons. b. Food Processing: There are a total of 1552 units and with an investment of Rs.13593.67 lakh which provide employment to around 7765 people. There are 317 bakery units, 208 biscuit/bakery biscuit making units, 429 spices making units. There are 134 fruit processing units, 15 cashew processing units and 77 chow noodles making units in the State.

c. Drinks and Allied: This sub-sector has a total of 49 units, employs 901 persons and has a total investment of Rs.10152.31 lakh. Under this sector, mineral water/package drinking water has the maximum number of units of 25. IMFL 11 units, Beer 2 units, Soft drink 4 units and Aerated water 7 units. Out of the total amount of investment within this sector, the highest percentage goes to mineral water/package drinking water with 42.10% of the total investment. The next highest share of investment goes to IMFL with 25.09% followed by Beer unit with 9.84%, Soft drink with Rs.2225.23 lakh and Aerated water with Rs.105 lakh. Mineral water/package drinking water employs the highest number of 396 persons; IMFL employs 180 persons, followed by soft drink with 170 persons. Beer employs 80 persons and Aerated water employs 75 persons. d. Jute based Industry: The jute base industry has a total of 191 units including jute diversified products, jute bag making, etc. With an investment of Rs. 1598.38 lakh, it employs around 1741 persons. Under this sector following are the sub-sector industries like jute twine manufacturing, hessian products (jute mills), jute handicraft and jute bag manufacturing. Out of all, jute handicraft has the highest number of 104 units , followed by jute bag manufacturing with 71 units, Jute twine manufacturing 7 units and hessian products 3 units. Though hessian products have less number of units, it has the highest share of investment of about 45.16% within this sector. The next highest share of investment goes to jute twine manufacturing of 40.6% followed by jute bag manufacturing with 11.73%. It is interesting to note that though jute handicrafts has the highest no of units it has the smallest percentage of investment, i.e only 2.47%. The highest share of employment about 51.2% is provided by hessian products. Jute bag manufacturing provides the second highest share of employment around 23.83%, followed by jute handicraft providing 21% and Jute twine manufacturing provides a smaller percentage of employment of about 3.84% only. e. Other Agro & Allied: This sub-sector has a total of 398 units with an investment of Rs.4111.38 lakh and provides employment to about 2448 persons. Under this sector, units like milk pasteurization and packaging, ice cream, cattle feed, poultry feed and fish meal, etc. “Other agro based products” has the highest share of units of almost 45.9% of this subsector followed by ice cream with 34.9%. The other industries have lesser number of units e.g milk pasteurization and packaging 15 units, cattle feed 37 units, poultry feed 22 units and fish meal 2 units. Out of the total amount of investment, maximum investment goes to poultry feed about Rs.1172.59 lakh which is 28.52% of the total within the sub-sector. The next highest investment goes to ice cream with a share of 24.93% of the sub-sector total. This is followed by other agro based products having an investment of Rs.947.25 lakh, milk pasteurization and packaging with Rs.852.85 lakh, cattle feed with Rs.106.16 lakh and fish meal with Rs. 7.5 lakh. In this category the highest level of employment (983) is provided by other agro based products which is about 40% of the total employment generated by this sub-sector, followed by ice cream which provides employment to about 31.8%. Milk pasteurization and packaging provides employment to around 10.53% of the total employment, followed by poultry feed with around 9% of the total employment. This is followed by cattle feed (8%) and fish meal(0.44%). f. Tea & Coffee: Excluding the tea factories under organized sector, there are 226 Bought Tea Leave (BTL) factories in the state having an investment of Rs.28769.15 lakh. Majority of the units are situated in Dibrugarh & Tinsukia district. There are 8 orthodox tea manufacturing small units in the state. Blending of tea is done by 58 units. There are 5 coffee curing units in the State. There are 492 tea factories under organized sector tea gardens in Assam Altogether Assam has 718 tea factories.

2. Forest based: About 11.74 % of units in Assam belong to this sector. The forest based industry has as many as 3368 units comprising wood based , bamboo & cane based and medicinal and aromatic plant with a total investment of Rs.8335.05 lakh and which employs around 15622 persons. a. Wood & Veneer: This sector has 2098 units and a total investment of Rs.4808.35 lakh and provides employment to around 9219 people. Wooden furniture has the highest share of units among wood and veneer category. It has around 94% of the total number of units. The other sectors have lesser shares like plywood manufacturing have 12 units, saw mills have 36 units and wood based handicraft products have 71 units. The highest share of investment in wood & veneer sector however goes to plywood manufacturing. With Rs.3345.1 lakh of investment it has a share of 69.5% of the total amount of investment in the sector. The next highest share of investment goes to wooden furniture which is around 27.28% of the total sectoral investment. Saw mills have a share of 2.87% and wood based handicraft products have a share of 0.27%. The highest level of employment is provided by wooden furniture around 87.8% of the total level of sectoral employment. This is followed by plywood manufacturing which provides around 7.3%. Likewise, saw mills provide about 2.7% and wood based handicraft products provide 2.1% of the total sectoral employment.

b. Bamboo & Cane based Industries: This category has 1229 units in the state with investment of Rs. 3450.7 lakh and employs around 6200 persons. Making of cane & bamboo furniture have 19.3% of the units and cane furniture has 9.73% of the units respectively. The other industries like bamboo board making 5 units, bamboo incense sticks 64 units, bamboo products (misc) 66 units, bamboo furniture making 23 units, bamboo blinds 1 unit, cane& bamboo basket making 73 units, sital pati making 24 units. Out of the total amount of investment, the highest share goes to bamboo board making with an investment of Rs. 1223 lakh which is 35.44% of the total amount of investment in the sector. The next highest share in investment goes to other forest based industries which have a share of 19.55% of the total sectoral investment. This is followed by bamboo products (misc) with a share of 13.63%, bamboo blinds with a share of 12.3%, cane& bamboo furniture with 8.58%, bamboo incense sticks with a share of 8.1%. The other units have lesser share of investment like bamboo furniture 0.83%, cane furniture 0.56%, cane& bamboo basket works 0.77% and sital pati units 0.13% of the total investment. The other forest based industries provide the highest level of employment with 48.35% of the sectoral total. The next highest level of employment is provided by cane & bamboo furniture with 15.35%, followed by cane furnitures with 8.5%, bamboo incense sticks with 7.62%, cane & bamboo basket works with 6.85%, bamboo furniture with 4.96%, bamboo products (misc) with 4.85%, sital pati units with 1.58%, bamboo boards making with 1.45% and bamboo blinds with 0.43% of the total level of sectoral employment. c. Medicinal & Aromatic Plant based industries: There are 41 units of the medicinal & aromatic plants based industrial units in the state. They together have a total investment of Rs. 76.5 lakh and provides employment to about 203 persons. This sub-sector could be divided into following categories: Agar manufacturing, Citronella processing, Medicinal plant processing and other Aromatic products processing. Agar manufacturing has the highest number of units (21) followed by Citronella processing with 13 units, other Aromatic products processing with 6 units and Medicinal plant processing has only 1 unit. Agar manufacturing has the highest share of investment around 63% of the total amount of investment in this sector. The second highest share of investment goes to citronella processing around 33.6%, followed by other aromatic products processing with 2.7% and medicinal plants processing with 0.44% of the total amount of sectoral investment. The highest share of employment of about 50.7% is provided by agar manufacturing which employs around 103 persons, the next highest employment is provided by citronella processing (69 persons) followed by other aromatic products processing (24 persons) and medicinal plants processing (7 persons). 3. Textiles sector: Textiles sector has 7960 units and a total investment of Rs. 6027.54 lakh in this sector. It provides employment to around 29047 persons. Under this category tailoring has maximum number of units (3411), accounting to 42.8% of the total sectoral units. Readymade garments have the next highest share of units (2104), which accounts for 26.43% of the total units. This is followed by decorative textiles (loom based) which has 23% of the total number of units. The other sectors like “other textile products” have 308 units, handloom accessories 95 units, knitted cloth woolen 84 units, knitted cloth 45 units, silk reeling 44 units, yarn dying & processing 28 units and power loom 3 units. Readymade garments accounts for highest percentage with investment of around 44% of the total investment in textile sector. The next highest share of investment of 21.66% in decorative textiles loom based industries, followed by tailoring with 19.39%. The other sub-sectors like yarn dying & processing accounts for 5.4%, power loom 1.12%, handloom accessories 1.23%, silk reeling unit 1.5%, knitted cloth 2.4%, knitted cloth woolen gets 1.20% and “other textile products” 1.78% of the total investments in the textiles sector. Tailoring provides highest employment to about 37.53% of the total persons employed in the textile sector. This is followed by the readymade garments which employs around 27.3%, Decorative textiles loom base units at 26.6%, “other textile products” with 2.5% of the total persons employed in the sector. 3. Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals: This sector accounts 1.46 % of total units of Assam. There are 420 units with an investment of Rs. 11555.32 lakh and generating employment of 4198 persons. Under this sector there are several sub- sectors out of which the highest percentage of units (39%) is present in the “other chemical” category. The next highest percentage of units (13.5%) is present in washing soap (handmade) followed by washing soap (machine made) with 10.47% units followed by medicine (ayurvedic) units with 9% and medicine (allopathic) with 7.6 % . Bleaching powder has 4 units, sulphuric acid 1 unit, ferric alum 3 units, laundry soap 27 units, detergent powder 19 units, cosmetics 16 units and mosquito replant mat 12 units. Out of the total amount of investment in this sector, the highest share is accounted with medicine (ayurvedic) about Rs.3870.02 lakh which is 33.49% . Mosquito replant mat is the next highest share of investment (Rs. 3502.8 lakh) with 30.3%. The third highest share of investment is with medicine (allopathic) which is about 14.98%. This is followed by other chemical items with 7.29%, detergent powder with 4.8%, cosmetics with 3.5 %, ferric alum with 1.6%, washing soap (machine made) with 1.36%, bleaching powder with 0.95%, washing soap (handmade) with 0.84%, laundry soap with 0.59% and sulphuric acid with 0.19% of the total sectoral investment. The highest level of employment is provided by “other chemical items” which is 22.24% of the sector. This is followed by medicine (allopathic) which is about 14%, mosquito replant with 13% and medicine (ayurvedic) 11% of the total employment in this sector. Likewise washing soap (machine made) provides 9.38% and washing soap (handmade ) provides 7.4%, laundry soap provides 7%, cosmetics provides 6.31%, detergent powder provides 6.2%, bleaching powder provides 2%, ferric alum provides 0.7% and sulphuric acid provides 0.35% of the total employment in this sector. 5. Engineering: This sector account 10.37% of total units in Assam . Under this sector there are 2975 units with an investment of Rs. 83219.95 lakh and employed about 16398 persons. In this sector the highest percentage of units occupied by M.S Fabrication/Almirah/Racks etc. It contains about 77.68% of the total units under this sector. Wire netting has the next highest share of units with 14.65% followed by other engineering products which has about 4% of the sectoral total. The other sub-sector have lesser number of units like MS pipe 8 units, Billet 13 units, TMT bar 21 units, GCI sheet 3 units, rolling mills 14 units, wire nails making 20 units, HB wire making 4 units, railways track fittings 2 units, barbed wire 9 units, tea machinery 8 units, stone crushing machinery 2 units and wire drawing 5 units. The major share of investment goes to billet making industries. It has a total investment of Rs.38862.74 lakh and occupies 46.69% of the total amount of investment under this sector. The second highest share of investment is MS pipe about Rs. 10759.98 lakh with 12.9% of the total investment under this sector, followed by GCI sheet with 12.6%, TMT bar with 11.4%, rolling mills with 6.13%, M.S Fabrication / Almirah / Racks with 5.8%, railways track fittings with 2.16%, tea machinery with 0.64%, wire nails making with 0.53%, other engineering products with 0.4%, wire drawing with 0.24%, wire netting with 0.17%, HB wire making with 0.13%, stone crushing machinery with 0.05% and barbed wire with o.oo6% of the total amount of investment in the sector. In terms of employment, M.S fabrication /Almirah/ racks manufacturing provides the highest percentage of employment (69.6%) followed by wire netting with 10.9% of the total employment under this sector. The other sectors like other engineering products provides 4.59%, TMT bar 4.29%, rolling mills 2.5%, tea machinery 2%, billet 1.5%, MS pipe 1.2%, wire nails making 0.9%, railways track fittings 0.73%, GCI sheet 0.45%, wire drawing 0.33%, barbed wire 0.25%, HB wire making 0.219% and stone crushing machinery 0.213% of the total employment. 6. Electronics sector: In this sector, there are 84 units and 50% of the total units are in the computer assembling sector. The next highest shares of units are in the TV assembling sector with 39% of the total units. The other sub-sector like computer assembling 8 units and VCR assembling 1 unit.

7. Mineral sector: There are 1881 units in this sector. The highest share of units under this sector is manufacturing of concrete pole, post industry and occupied 38.38% and mostly located in the rural areas. The next highest share of units is present in the stone crushing/ chips industry 20.7%, followed by bricks 19.6% and other mineral based unit 8.2%. Under minerals sector, the total amount of investment is Rs. 46414.4 lakh and highest percentage in cement industry with 41.6% of the total investment. The second highest percentage of investment is with stone crushing/ chips which are about 14% followed by coke units (coal to coke) with 12.5% of the total amount of investment. The share of brick industry is 9.76% of the total amount of investment. Though making of concrete pole and post have a large number of units under them, the level of investment is not very significant . The total employment under the sector is 18459 persons. The bricks industry together with bricks (mechanized) provides the highest percentage of employment i.e 39.4%. The next highest investment is found in the stone crushing/ chips industry with 19% and concrete poles & posts provides a good amount of employment of around 14.4%. 8. Electrical sector: In this sector there are 105 units with an investment of Rs. 3233.07 lakh and provides employment to around 695 persons, which are engaged in manufacturing / assembling of household electrical products. Though there are comparatively less number of units in the AAC conductors but the volume of investment is high. There are 13 transformer manufacturing units (with an investment of Rs.236.74 lakh) and 12 transformer repairing units in the state. 9. Leather sector: There are 69 units in this sub-sector with an investment of Rs.49.8 lakh and provides employment to 289 persons. 10. Rubber sector: There are 32 units under this sector with an investment of Rs.1160.52 lakh and it employs 389 persons. The sub-sectors are Ribbed Smoke Sheet (RSS), Latex Rubber Sheet, Rubber Foam, Balloon, Rubber Hand Gloves and other rubber products. Maximum rubber production takes place in Karbi- Anglong district followed by Goalpara and Karimganj district. The highest share of investment goes to “other rubber products” industry with 75.14 % followed by 19% of rubber foam industry. In terms of employment, it is seen that though the latex rubber sheet making units has lesser share of investment, it provides the maximum employment about 34.9% of the total sectoral employment.

11. Metal based industries: Under this sector, there are 270 units with an investment of around Rs. 1695.97 lakh and it employs 1594 persons. The highest shares of units are found in the brass metal and bell metal industries and mostly located in Hajo & Sarthebari areas. The total amount of investment under this sector is Rs.1695.97 lakh. Out of this, the highest percentage of investment is with the aluminum utensils units which is about 64.5% of the total sectoral investment. The brass metal industry employs about 33% and the bell metal industry employs about 21% of the total people engaged in the sector. The aluminum utensils industry employs about 25.8% of the sectoral employment. 12. Plastic based industries: There are 235 units under this sector with an investment of Rs.8413.94 lakh. The major industries are PVC pipe manufacturing, Moulded furniture, Plastic sheets etc. PVC pipe making occupies 23.9% followed by 21% of moulded furniture of the total investment. The total employment in the plastics sector is 1818 where “other plastic products” provides the maximum employment of about 33%, followed by polythene bags (26%), moulded furniture (19%) and PVC pipe (12%). 13. Paper & paper related: There are 1680 units under this sector with an investment of Rs.28340.63 lakh. This sector provides employment to 9127 persons. There are 798 nos of printing presses in the state with an investment of Rs.6474.62 lakh. There are 630 DTP units with an investment of Rs. 1172.56 lakh. The state has 31 cartoon manufacturing industrial units with an investment of Rs. 20259.32 lakh. There are 3 handmade paper units, 2 paper manufacturing units (waste paper to paper) in the state. 14. Information Technology: There are 209 units under this sector with an investment of Rs.1044.51 lakh and employment of. 794 persons. The state has 10 call centres, 65 data processing centres and 19 software development units. 15. Miscellaneous products not listed above: Under this sector, several industries having a total of 886 units are included like tyre rethreading, sports goods, jewellery, musical instruments, agarbatti, cold storage, etc. The highest numbers of units (about 372 units) are set up under other miscellaneous products, followed by jewellery with 217 units and tyre rethreading with 107 units. Total investment in this sector is Rs. 6587.54 lakh, with cold storage having the highest percentage of investment around 40.4%. Under this sector, a total of 4082 persons are employed in the sub-sectors of tyre rethreading, jewellery, etc .

16. Service sector activities: About 12.79 % of units of Assam are under this sector (excluding the tailoring units of 3411). The state has 3668 service sector units which comprises of repairing of vehicles, engineering workshops, bi-cycle repairing, beauty parlors, Photostatting, etc. This sector has 1.77 % of investment with 7.76% of employment. Although Investment is low, this sector has the capability to provide more employment. 7.7 District-wise sectoral analysis of Resources & activities: District-wise sectoral analysis of resources & activities are as follows:

1. Baksa

Activities 1 Agriculture The net sown area of the district is 125735 Ha, constitute 54% of the geographical area of the district (234616 Ha), 75% work force engaged in agriculture. The most important crop of the district is paddy which constitutes 50% of the gross crop area. Other important crops are potato, wheat, mustard and jute. Average land holding size is 1.49 Ha. 2 Horticulture The soil and agro-climatic conditions of the district are ideal for cultivation of wide varieties of plantation and horticulture crops relatively in the upland areas. Due to long gestation of horticulture/ plantation crops, areca nut, coconut, jackfruit and mangoes are confined to small backyard gardens. There is no cold storage in the district. 3 Allied activities Dairy The capacity of production of raw milk of the district is about 4.5 lakh ltr but there is no organized milk procurement centre in the district. Poultry There are on 95 broiler farms in the district. There is no Govt/private hatchery , feed mill etc but the district has tremendous scope for development of poultry farming Fishery There are 4700 families directly engaged in pisciculture for their livelihood. There are 5 nos of private hatchery, 40 nos of fish seed growers and 11 retail fish markets in the district. 4 Industries & Commerce (a) MSME The district has 266 nos of MSME units with an investment of Rs.852.41 lakh. The employment in this sector is about 1490 only. The district has 16.82 % units under the services sector category and it comprises of small units like engineering workshop, repairing of vehicles etc. The district has 13 nos of rice mills, 16 nos of wooden furniture making unit, 80 nos of handloom units etc. The district has only one Cement industry. (b) Medium & The district has no medium industries. Large Industries (c)Border The district is bordering Bhutan and Darranga is the only notified Land Custom Trade Station (LCS) of the district (Indo-Bhutan Border). A Border Trade Centre is under construction to facilitate trade & commerce of the district. (d) Industrial The district has only one small Industrial area. Infrastructure 5 Opportunities The district is a catchment area of fruits & vegetables of Bhutan and all the major products passes through this area. There is a tremendous possibility of setting up of food processing industries nearby. The location and climatic condition of the district shows that the district is favourable for Bio-Tech industries which have potential for employment generation. 6 Attention Agri & horticulture sector: required 1. 2. Barpeta

Activities Present status 1 Agriculture The economy of the district is agrarian, about 75% of the work force engaged in agriculture sector. Out of 342803 Ha geographical area, the net cropped area and gross cropped area are 180947 ha and 255133 ha respectively. Average land holding size is 1.06 Ha. There are about 1.46 lakh nos of small and marginal farmers and it contributes to about 84% of land holding. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses , oil seeds, fibre crops, tuber crops and varieties of summer and winter vegetables. Paddy is the main crop followed by mustered, pulses, Jute, chillies, onions etc. Barrette is one of the major producers of Raw jute but there is no jute mill in the district. 2 Horticulture The soil and agro-climatic conditions of the district are ideal for cultivation of wide varieties of plantation. Due to long gestation of horticulture/ plantation crops, areca nut, coconut, jackfruit and mangoes are confined to small backyard gardens. Major horticulture products area Assam lemon , papaya, guava, chillies , potato, ginger etc. 3 Medicinal & Patchouli cultivation recently introduced in Nagaon area of Barpeta district. aromatic plant 4 Allied activities Dairy There are 46 registered Milk co-operative societies engaged in milk producing and trading with a daily production capacity of 8000 lts. Howly, Pathsala, Nityananda are the major producing area of Milk. Poultry The people of the district are predominantly non-vegetarian and varieties of meats like Mutton, chicken, duck, pork, beef etc are consumed, There is only one hatchery in the district. Fishery Annual production of the district is about 16000 MT. A considerable amount of fish produced in the district is marketed at Guwahati. There are 21 retail markets of fish in the district and whole sale market of Barpeta Road cater to the need of all other retail markets. 5 Industries & Commerce (a) MSME The district has 1132 nos of MSME units with an investment of Rs 3116.81 lakh. The district provides employment to around 5001 people in industrial sector. 17.05 % of total units under services sector category comprises with repairing workshops, tailoring etc. Rice milling, Wooden furniture, cane and bamboo industries, Decorative textiles units are the main industries in the district. The district is famous for its fireworks industries and there are 5 (five) units in the district. The district has also more than 200 nos of small bell metal units. Most of the products utilized by the local people and around 30% of its products sold to Bhutan & Nepal. The district is also famous for its Bamboo based craft and most of the bamboo furniture, basket works etc coming from this district. “Kayakuchi” area of Barpeta district is famous for its Bamboo mat making units. (b) Medium & The district has no large or medium sector industries in the district. Large Industries (c)Border There is no declared LCS in the district. Trade (d) Industrial (1) The district has one Industrial area nearby DICC office. Infrastructure (2) A new Integrated Infrastructure Development Centre (IID) would be set up at Pathsala under the MSE-CDP of Government of India. The project was sanctioned by the Ministry of MSME to develop the infrastructure with a cost of Rs.7.5 cr. The project is under construction stage. (3) Around 200 bighas of land allotted by the district administration for setting up of industries nearby Sarthebari. (4) Another 30 bighas of land allotted nearby Gonok kuchi to set up of a Fireworks Village. The project is under active consideration of Government. 6 Opportunity As the district has advantage as it produces various surplus crops, there is a tremendous scope for setting up fruit/vegetable base industries in the district. 7 Attention Agro & allied sector: required 1. 3. Bongaigaon

Activities Present status 1 Agriculture The economy of the district is agrarian, about 80% of the work force engaged in agriculture sector. Out of 172529 Ha geographical area, the net cropped area and gross cropped area are 66494 ha and 97114 ha respectively. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses , oil seeds, fibre crops, tuber crops and varieties of summer and winter vegetables. Paddy is the main crop followed by mustard, pulses, Jute, chillies, onions etc.

2 Horticulture The soil and agro-climatic conditions of the district are ideal for cultivation of wide varieties of plantation. Due to long gestation of horticulture/ plantation crops, areca nut, coconut, jackfruit, Litchi and mangoes are confined to small backyard gardens. Major horticulture products area Assam lemon , papaya, guava, Chillies , potato, ginger etc. 3 Allied activities Dairy There is a tremendous scope for development of Dairy in the district. Poultry The people of the district are predominantly non-vegetarian and varieties of meats like Mutton, chicken, duck, pork, beef etc are consumed. The requirement is met from outside suppliers from West Bengal, Bihar & UP. There is a regular flow of Broiler, eggs, fish, pigs etc from outside the state. Fishery The district has only one echo-hatchery for production of fish seeds. 4 Industries& commerce (a)MSME This district has a total of 461 units which is only 1.6% of the total units in the state. It gets only about 0.30% of the total investment and provides employment to around 1524 people. Rice milling, decorative textiles, printing press, steel fabrication are the main industries of the district. 32.97% of units belong to the service sector category which is above the state average of 24.68%. Tailoring, Xeroxing, repairing works are the major activities under this sector. (b)Medium & The district has one medium sector industry producing CPC. Large Industries (c)Border Trade The district has no declared LCS and not bordering any Indian state. (d)Industrial The district has only one Industrial Estate under AIIDC. 4. Cachar

Activities Present status 1 Agriculture The economy of the district is agrarian, about 80% of the work force engaged in agriculture sector. The net cropped area and gross cropped area are 124000 ha and 152826 ha respectively. Average land holding is .54 ha. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses, oil seeds, fibre crops, tuber crops and varieties of summer and winter vegetables. Paddy is the main crop followed by mustard, pulses , Jute, chillies, onions etc.

2 Horticulture The district has a vast scope for development of plantation and horticulture crops. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of most of the plantation crops like tea, rubber, cashew, coffee, areca nut, coconut and also aromatic plant like Patchouli etc. Apart from that horticulture crops like pineapple, banana, citrus fruit, papaya etc are grown widely in the district. There are two cold storage units in the district, viz: KAY DEE Cold storage with 5000 MT capacity and Lalit Cold Storage with 5000 MT capacity in the district. Horticulture crops like Pineapple & areca nut are the two crops grown commercially in the district. 3 Allied activities Dairy The production of milk in the district is around 23 million ltr against the requirement 100 million ltr per annum. There is a gap of around 77 million ltr of milk in the district. The district has only one pasteurization plant with a capacity of 5000 ltr per day. Poultry The people of the district are predominantly non-vegetarian and varieties of meats like Mutton, chicken, duck, pork, beef etc are consumed. There are more than 425 nos broiler farms in the district. Commercial farming (layer) is nonexistent in the district and many farmers rear birds in small numbers on free range system. Annual egg production of the district is about 13.5 million numbers against the annual requirement of 75 million eggs. Fishery Against the annual requirement of 25000 MT of fish, the district is capable to produce 20000 MT of fish annually. The gap is filled through importing fish from Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and also from Bangladesh. There are 8 echo-hatcheries in the district producing approximately 80 million fingerlings per annum. The district has no feed plant.

4 Industries & Commerce (a)MSME This district has 687 nos of MSME units with an investment of Rs.5190.12 lakh which is about 1.82% of the total volume of investment and it employs around 3276 people. Rice milling, spices processing, wooden furniture, readymade garments, steel fabrication, stone chips making, printing press etc are the major activities in the district. 16.01 % of units belong to service sector activities. Engineering workshop, repairing services, tailoring are the major activities under this sector. (b)Medium & The district has one LPG bottling plant , one Cement and one Steel Large Industries industries under medium & large sector. (c) Border Trade The district is a catchment area of neighbouring three states like Meghalaya, Manipur & Mizoram. All agricultural products of Mizoram & Manipur pass through the Cachar district only. (d) Industrial (1)The district has one Industrial Estate at Malinibeel under DICC. Infrastructure (2) The district has one IID at Malinibeel under AIDC Ltd. 5 Opportunity Cachar will be future Economic Hub of Assam due to its strategic location and growing business. 6 Attention required Agro & Allied: 1. Activities Present status 1 Agriculture The economy of the district is agrarian, about 80% of the work force engaged in agriculture sector. The net cropped area and gross cropped area are 53042 ha and 80954 ha respectively. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses , oil seeds, fibre crops, tuber crops and varieties of summer and winter vegetables. Paddy is the main crop followed by mustard, pulses, Jute, chillies, onions etc. The district is characterized by over dependence on rainfall, predominance on seasonal crops and traditional method of cultivation. The district has only one cold storage with a capacity of 7500 MT.

2 Horticulture The district has vast scope for development of plantation and horticulture crops. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many of the horticulture crops like pineapple, banana, citrus fruit, papaya, chilies etc grown widely in the district. 3 Allied activities Dairy Dairy is an important sub-sector in this district. There are 12 dairy farms in this district. Poultry Poultry eggs and meat constitute the main sources of protein in the common man’s diet. Poultry farming basically includes broiler and layer farming. Duckery is also very popular among the rural masses. The total population of poultry birds and ducks in the district as in 2003 were 445868 and 206335 respectively. Commercial farms are very few in the district so this can be developed through bank credit. Fishery This district is endowed with fishery resources in the form of ponds/tanks, beel, swamps, low lying areas rivers, rivulets etc. There is a wide gap between production and demand and this gap is bridged through import of fish from other states. Of the total production nearly 80% comes from capture fishery resources and 20% from culture fisheries. 4 Industry & Commerce (a)MSME The district has 61 nos of MSME units with an investment of Rs.533.29 lakh. It employs about 450 persons. The contribution of the services sector is about 8.20 %. Rice milling appears to be major activity in the district. (b)Medium & BRPL is the only large industry and Satya Megha Pvt Ltd a MS billet Large industries manufacturing unit is the only Medium sector industry in the district. (c)Border Trade Hatisar (Dathgiri) is the only declared LCS (Indo-Bhutan border) of the district. It has proposed to construct one Border Trade Centre at Dathgiri for development Trade & Commerce with the neigbouring country , Bhutan. (d) Industrial The district has two industrial areas at Karjia and Bengtol under DICC. Infrastructure 5 Opportunity The district is bordering Bhutan and Hatisar (Dathgiri) is the main trading point. All the agricultural products of Bhutan passes through this border point and has a potential for setting up of fruit processing industries and other industrial activities. 6 Attention required Agro & allied: 1. 6. Darrang

Activities Present status 1 Agriculture The economy of the district is agrarian, about 80% of the work force engaged in agriculture sector. The net cropped area and gross cropped area are 73619 ha and 132736 ha respectively, of which paddy is the principal crop. Other major crops are jute, oil seeds, vegetables etc. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses etc. The district has Cold storage facility.

2 Horticulture The district has vast scope for development of plantation and horticulture crops. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for the development of most of the horticulture crops like pineapple, banana, citrus fruit, papaya, chilies etc grown widely in the district. 3 Allied activities Dairy The district has a capacity to produce 11679 ltr milk per day. Availability of milk is only 3.43% against the total requirement. “Patharu Ghat Dugdha Utpadak Society” has one Bulk Cooler & Milk supply van in the district. Poultry Egg production of the district is around 23562 per day. “M/S SRD Nutrients” a medium sector industry located at Mangaldoi need about 90000 eggs per day for their cake manufacturing unit. Entire requirement is met from West Bengal & Andhra Pradesh. There is no Hatchery to provide quality chick. Fishery Average annual production of fish of the district is about 7000 MT against the annual requirement of 9000 MT. 4 Industry & Commerce (a)MSME The district has 608 nos of MSME units with an investment of 3572.42 lakhs i.e., around 1.25% of the total investment in the state. Around 2987 people are employed here. Rice milling, bakery, wooden furniture, readymade garments, steel fabrication, stone chips making, printing etc are the major industrial activities in the district. About 29.11% of the units belong to services sector activities. (b)Medium & (1)The district has one Large Industrial unit viz. Other major crops are oil seeds, vegetables etc. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses etc. The district has no Cold storage facility.

2 Horticulture The district has vast scope for development of plantation and horticulture crops. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many horticulture crops like jackfruit, areca nut, potato, papaya, lemon, Water melon etc grown widely in the district. 3 Medicinal & There is a tremendous scope for development of Medicinal & aromatic plant aromatic plant cultivation & processing in the district along the Assam –Arunachal Pradesh Border. One distillation plant is functioning. 4 Allied activities Dairy The district has a capacity to produce 337 lakh ltr of milk annum. The per capita milk was estimated at 162 ml against the State average of 87 ml. It appears that the district has surplus of milk production which can be utilised for industrial purpose. Poultry With the existing chicken population, the egg production is estimated at 91.51 lakh eggs per annum with 90% of the production coming from desi chicken. The per capita availability is at 15 eggs per day against the state average of 21 eggs per day. There is no hatchery and feed mill. Fishery Annual requirement of fish is about 4075.15 MT of which 1663 MT fish is procured from outside the district. 5 Industry & Commerce (a)MSME This district has only about 527 MSME units with an investment of Rs.742.91 lakh. Activities Present status 1 Agriculture The economy of the district is agrarian, about 70% of the work force engaged in agriculture sector. The net cropped area and gross cropped area are 141896 ha and 160265 ha respectively, of which paddy is the principal crop. Other major crops are jute, oil seeds, vegetables etc. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses etc. Flood is a chronic problem and nearly 75290 ha area get affected every year.

2 Horticulture The district has vast scope for development of plantation and horticulture crops. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many of the horticulture crops like pineapple, Jackfruit, banana, citrus fruit, cashew nut, papaya, chilies, Litchi etc grown widely in the district. 3 Allied activities Dairy The district is self sufficient in production of Milk. The Milk production of the district is about 531.6 lakh lt per annum. There is no Milk processing unit in the district. Poultry There is a good demand for eggs and meat. According to the sample survey of 2008-09 there were 308596 fowls and 157995 ducks. Commercial farming is almost nonexistent in the district. There is one duck farm run by private party. Most of the time people rear birds as a backyard activity. The DRDA has started one hatchery whose marketing is done by the SHGs. Fishery Average annual production of fish of the district is about 16974 MT against the annual requirement of 26212 MT. The district has 13 nos of Echo Hatchery but there is no fish feed mill in the district. 4 Industry & Commerce (a)MSME This district has 1098 nos of MSME units with an investment of Rs.4218.59 lakh. The employment in these units is about 2795 nos of persons. The district is famous for its Clay bricks and there are 65 nos of bricks filed in the district which is highest in Assam. About 67.58 % of units belong to services sector category which comprises with the activities like Tailoring & other repairing works etc. The district has one Terracotta village at Asharikandi. The district is famous for Jute diversified products like Jute Mat, carpet etc. The district is also famous for Water Hyacinth products. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many of the horticulture crops like Orange, Assam lemon, pineapple, Jackfruit, banana, papaya, chilies, Ginger, Tea etc grown widely in the district. A huge quantity of horticulture crops passing through the district originates from neighboring Arunachal Pradesh & Nagaland. 3 Allied activities Dairy Against the per day demand of 29041 Ltr, the production of Milk in the district per day is about 23989 ltr. Poultry Per day demand of egg in the district is about 72246 nos against the production of 30000 eggs per day in the district. The district has tremendous market potential of eggs in the district. Fishery Average annual production of fish of the district is about 6726.3 MT against the annual requirement of 12000 MT. The district has7 nos Eco Hatchery but there is no fish feed mill in the district. 4 Industry & Commerce (a)MSME The district has 2849 nos of MSME units with an investment of Rs.21471.00 lakh. The employment in this sector is about 11833 nos of persons. The district has 73 nos of bought tea leave factory with an investment of Rs.11242 lakh. About 47.67 % of units belong to services sector activities which are higher than the state average of 24.68 %. Tailoring, Bi-Cycle repairing, beauty parlour etc are the major activities under the services sector. (b)Medium & The district has large establishment of Oil India Ltd at Duliajan. Apart from that Large industries Assam Gas Company, Assam Petro Chemicals Ltd and Brahmaputra Valley Fertliser Corporation Ltd are also operating from the district. Darrangagiri is the largest Banana market of India, selling of Banana is worth of Rs.1,5 cr per week. 3 Allied activities Dairy Dairy farming is an important subsidiary occupation in the district. There is no organized milk procurement centre in the district. Poultry Commercialization of poultry is yet to take place on a larger scale. As compared to chicken rearing, duck rearing has made good progress in the district. Fishery The district has 3 nos Echo Hatchery but there is no fish feed mill in the district. 4 Industry & Commerce (a)MSME The district has 962 nos of MSME units with an investment of Rs.859.73 lakhs. Large industries (c)Border Trade The district is bordering to East & West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. Coals of Meghalaya pass through the district to other palaces of Assam & India. A large volume of Coal is exported to Bangladesh through Goalpara, Paikan , Mahendraganj/ Barsapara etc. (d) Industrial 1. The district has one Industrial Growth Centre at Matia under AIDC Ltd. Infrastructure 2. The district has two industrial areas at Baladmari and Goalpara under DICC. 5 Opportunity Construction works of M/S Kohinoor Paper Mills Ltd is under progress at industrial Growth Centre, Matia. This unit will invest around Rs.1500 Cr and will provide 2000 jobs in the district. It is proposed to start its commercial production by the end of 2014. The district has the potential for setting up of Cane & bamboo base industries, rubber based industry, Banana base industries etc. Darangagiri is one of the largest Banana markets of Asia situated at Goalpara district. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many of the horticulture crops like pineapple, Orange, Tea, Jackfruit, banana, citrus fruit, areca nut, papaya, chilies etc grown widely in the district. 3 Allied activities Dairy The milk production of the district is about 15.60 lakh lt per annum against the annual demand of 18.00 lakh ltr. Poultry Annual demand of egg of the district is 17.52 lakh no and production of egg is about 10.32 lakh per annum. Fishery Average annual production of fish of the district is about 7000 MT against the annual requirement of 10307 MT. The district has 4 Echo Hatcheries but there is no fish feed mill in the district. 4 Industry & Commerce (a)MSME The district has 783 nos of MSME units with an investment of Rs.3588.95 Cr. Employment in the MSME sector is about 3720. The district has 22 nos of Bought Tea Leaf factory. Apart from that rice milling, dal mill, bakery, decorative textiles, readymade garments, Steel fabrication, stone chips, printing presses & DTP etc are the major industrial activities of the district. About 26.82% of the units belong to services sector comprises with the activities like tailoring, bicycle repairing and other repairing activities. (b)Medium & NRL is the only large industry in the district. Other major crops are oil seeds, vegetables etc. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses etc. Flood is a chronic problem and nearly 1050 ha area get affected every year. The district has two cold storages.

The estimated livestock & poultry population in this district as per the 2009-10 (sample survey) are 116,530 of indigenous cattle, 3864 of cross breed cattle, 7268 of buffaloes, 48369 of goats and 321531 of poultry. The state govt introduced the Swarnadhenu scheme under January 2002 in the district. Poultry There are about 80 private broiler poultry farms in the district. The total egg production in the district during 2010-11 was about 14.103572 million numbers. Other major crops are jute, oil seeds, vegetables etc. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses etc. Flood is a chronic problem in Majuli Sub-division of the district. The district has one cold storage facility.

The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many of the horticulture crops like tea, pineapple, Jackfruit, banana, citrus fruit, black pepper, papaya, chilies, Litchi etc grown widely in the district. 3 Allied activities Dairy The Milk production of the district is about 1.17 lakh ltr per day against the demand of 2.80 ltr per day. Poultry Approximate production of egg is about 48300 nos per day and demand of egg is about 80600 eggs per day. Similarly per day requirement of meat is about 48500 kg but production is only 8300 kg per day. Fishery Average annual production of fish of the district is about 11384 MT against the annual requirement of 13500 MT. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many horticulture crops like pineapple, Jackfruit, banana, citrus fruit, areca nut, papaya, chilies, Litchi etc grown widely in the district. 3 Allied activities Dairy Compared to demand, the supply of milk is insufficient in the district so there is a scope for financing crossbred cows in the district. As per the 2007 census, the total no of crossbred cows, indigenous cow and buffaloes are 15107, 314450 and 65281 respectively. There is a low demand for indigenous cow in the district due to low milk yield. There is a good demand for buffaloes but due to non availability of quality animals in the district farmers are not keen to buy them at a high price from other districts. Poultry It has 579133 and 345946 no of fowls and ducks as per the census 2007. There are around 80 broiler farm with 100 to 2000 bird capacity but there is no organized Layer Farm in the district. Poultry Commercial broiler farming has been taken up by a few farmers in the district. Around 100 poultry units were set up on a commercial basis in the past few years. With the existing chicken population, the egg production is estimated at 15 million eggs per annum with 90% of the production coming from desi chicken. Autumn rice, winter rice, maize, potato, Rape & mustard and Sugarcane are the major agricultural production of the district. 2 Horticulture The district with diverse agro climatic conditions, read loam and laterite soil is favourable for growth of wide range of plantation & horticulture crops. The district is a major producer of orange & pineapple. Other important crops are areca nut, Banana, Papaya etc. 3 Allied activities Dairy Per capita availability of milk is estimated at 257 ml/day, which is higher than the state average of 87 ml/day per person. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many of the horticulture crops like orange, pineapple, Jackfruit, banana, citrus fruit, papaya, chilies, sugarcane, ginger, black pepper, onion etc grown widely in the district. 3 Medicinal & The district is endowed with good agro-climatic condition for growing of aromatic plant medicinal & aromatic plants. Agar is one of the major productions of the district with its export value. Apart from that Patchouli, sugandhmantri, Citronella, Sarpagandha etc cultivated widely in the district. There are more than 100 small & medium distillation units in the district. However, Critical distillation is not available in the district. 4 Allied activities Dairy Annual milk requirement of the district is about 255.5 million ltrs against the annual production of 219.83 million ltrs. Poultry There is a huge demand for eggs and poultry meat in the district. No of eggs produced in the district per annum is about 45.28 million and the shortage is of about 32.73 million. The shortage of broiler meat is 97.90 lakh kg. It is observed that the poultry meat contributes 21% of total meat production. There are 218 broiler farms and 13 layer farms in the district. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many of the horticulture crops like Jackfruit, banana, citrus fruit, papaya, chilies, sugarcane, ginger etc grown widely in the district. 3 Allied activities Dairy The production of milk in the district is 3% of state production. The per capita availability of milk is estimated at 104 gm/day/person but the requirement is 208 gm/day/person. Thus there is a deficit of 104gm/per day/person. There is no organized milk procurement in the district. There is one Rural Dairy centre at Nalbari to collect raw milk from nearby Coop. Society and bring the milk to urban areas for distribution. Poultry There are about 256 small layer farms and 532 broiler farms in the district. Duck rearing has also gained popularity in the recent years. Fishery Average annual production of fish of the district is about 9150 MT against the annual requirement of 15773 MT. The district has 4 nos of Echo Hatcheries but there is no fish feed mill in the district. 4 Industry & Commerce (a)MSME The district has 400 nos of MSME units with an investment of Rs.6006.08 lakh. Employment in this sector is about 2581 nos of persons. The district has 28 nos of bought tea leaf factory with an investment of Rs.3444 lakh. Apart from that rice milling, wooden furniture, decorative textiles, MS fabrication, Stone chips etc are the major industrial activities of the district. About 29.75% units belong to services sector which is higher than the state average of 24.68%. Activities Present status 1 Agriculture The economy of the district is agrarian; about 70% of the work force is engaged in agriculture sector. The net cropped area and gross cropped area are 1.48 lakh ha and 1.65 lakh ha respectively, of which paddy is the principal crop. Other major crops are jute, oil seeds, vegetables etc. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses etc. 2 Horticulture The district has vast scope for development of plantation and horticulture crops. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many horticulture crops like orange, pineapple, Jackfruit, banana, citrus fruit, papaya, chilies, sugarcane, ginger, black pepper, onion etc which are grown widely in the district. 3 Allied activities Dairy As reported by the district A.H. & Veterinary dept, the present cattle population in the district is 680245. Productivity of the local breed is low and percentage of high yielding crossbred cattle is less than 5% against all India average of more than 20%. Poultry There are about 390 broiler farms mostly in the range of 100-500 birds per cycle capacity operating in the state. Other major crops are oil seeds, vegetables etc. Agri-climatic condition of the district is ideal for growing various types of cereals, pulses etc. 2 Horticulture The district has vast scope for development of plantation and horticulture crops. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many of the horticulture crops like orange, pineapple, Jackfruit, banana, citrus fruit, papaya, chilies, sugarcane, ginger, black pepper, onion etc grown widely in the district. 3 Medicinal Plant The district tremendous potential for medicinal & aromatic plant. Extensive cultivation of lemon grass and citronella seen in the Assam –Arunachal Border more particularly in the Bordumsa-Pangeri region. There are more than 20 distillation units out of which 2 in Assam part. 4 Allied activities a Dairy Average daily production of milk in the district is 464 tonnes. b Poultry There are 137 private broiler farms, 8 layer farms and 2 hatcheries in the district. The district is also producing brown eggs. Average eggs production of the district is about 23.04 lakh nos. Brown eggs, only available in this district and there are two oraganised layer farms to produce brown eggs. c Fishery Of the three fish seed hatcheries set up in the district, two are functional and fish seed production is about 153 lakh fry/ finger lings. During 2008-09 4 sensitization and skill upgradation programme has been organized in the district. Around 535 fish farmers have been trained in Fisheries Training Centre at Borguri, Tinsukia under ARIASP programme. The district has 345 km stretch of Riverine Fisheries and 2 Forest Fisheries. Fish like Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Gonious, Calbasu, silver carp, grass carp and common carp are reared in ponds and lakes in the district. The fish catch has generally been increasing in the natural water bodies like beels, low lying areas and ponds which indicate that a major portion of local fish supply is from catch fish. 5 Industry & Commerce (a)MSME The district has 1460 nos of MSME units with an investment of Rs.19568.74 lakh. Employment in this sector is about 7319 nos of persons. The district has 72 nos of Bought Tea leave factory with an investment of Rs.9763 lakh. Rice milling , bakery/biscuit making, spices processing, wooden furniture, MS steel fabrication, Coke, printing , bricks making etc are the major industrial activities of the district. About 27.88 % of the units belong to services sector activities. The services sector activities are Tailoring , Xeroxing, repairing activities etc. (b)Medium & 1. Digboi Refinery (IOCL) and one LPG bottling plant are the large industries Large industries in the district under Central Public sector. 2. Hindustan Unilever Ltd (personal care products), Doomdooma is the single largest private investor in the district. 3. The district has 4 Medium and large industries. (c)Border Trade The district is bordering to Arunachal Pradesh. There is only 16 kms to Myanmar border from the Joyrampur (Border point at Tinsukia district). A trade facilitation centre is under construction at Jagun. (d) Industrial 1. The district has only one Industrial Estate at Tinsukia under AIIDC. Infrastructure 2. The district has one IID Centre at Parbotipur under AIIDC which is under construction. 3. The district has one Industrial area at Doomdooma. 4. The agro-climatic condition of the district is congenial for development of many of the horticulture crops like orange, pineapple, Jackfruit, banana, citrus fruit, papaya, chilies, sugarcane, ginger, black pepper, onion etc grown widely in the district. 3 Allied activities A Dairy Average daily requirement of 342290 lts milk, milk production in the district is about 5614 ltr/day. B Poultry POULTRY: Requirement of egg for the district as per the WHO norms is 532451 nos. per day while the quantity produced is 3217750 nos. The % of availability of eggs in the district is 1.58% per day. There is no hatchery in the district to supply DOC. C Fishery Average annual production of fish of the district is about 3700 MT against annual demand of 4000 MT.
