5. Ancient Egyptian civilization was shaped largely by geographic conditions. Ancient Egypt was a male-dominated society centered on the pharaoh.

1. Egyptians saw the pharaoh as the incarnation of Horus, a god on earth. (ph. 25)

2. When weather changed and plants began to dry up, groups migrated to the Nile River where they started a different lifestyle. (pg.25)

3. Egypt resides along the bank of the Nile River, surrounded mostly by desert. Its populations are secluded from the other villages nearby. The river’s floods are an advantage because when the waters recede, the silt is left fertile and mineral rich. (pg 24)

4. Egyptians believed their kings to be “Gods on Earth” and called them Pharaohs. The pharaoh was worshipped and ensured the protection and well-being of his people. (pg 25)

10. The egyption king was called Pharaoh. Pharaoh is an Egyptian phrase that means palace. Believed to be a god on earth, he maintained the role of ma’at the divinely authorized order of the universe. By linking the people and the gods be ensured the prosperity of Egypt. (pg25)

11. Egyptians saw the Nile’s flooding as a sign that the universe was orderly and beneficent. (pg. 25)

12. The pharaoh was so depended upon that upon their deaths great efforts were taken to ensure a safe journey to the realm of the gods (pg 25)

13. More important towns and cities were placed upstream so that information could just be sent by using the river (pg 24)
