1 [5067] 1 1 fundamentals of America’s pastime but also the honor with which 2 the game should be played; and 3 4 Whereas, as Coach Richardson, he served as the head baseball 5 coach of the University of South Carolina and took the team to its 6 first college World Series; and 7 8 Whereas, he also served as the head coach for the Coastal Carolina 9 University baseball team and for Liberty University in Lynchburg, 10 Virginia; and 11 12 Whereas, Mr. Richardson is a seven-time All-Star, five-time Gold 13 Glove Winner, and three-time World Champion, and he won the 14 1960 World Series Most Valuable Player even though his team lost 15 the series that year; and 16 17 Whereas, the national spokesman for the Fellowship of Christian 18 Athletes and a member of their Hall of Champions, Bobby 19 Richardson is a committed Christian who has lived his life 20 according to the words of John 1:12, which says, “As many as 21 received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, 22 even to them that believe on his name”; and 23 24 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly 25 express their appreciation to Robert Clinton “Bobby” Richardson 26 for his support of the Salvation Army over many years, for his 27 service to the citizens of our fine State, and for the manner in 28 which he represents this State to the world at large. Now, 29 therefore, 30 31 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 32 concurring: 33 34 That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this 35 resolution, recognize and honor Robert Clinton “Bobby” 36 Richardson for his impressive career in baseball, and express 37 profound gratitude as he ministers to youth in South Carolina and 38 in the world abroad and serves as an ambassador for our fine State. 39 40 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 41 Robert Clinton “Bobby” Richardson. 42 ----XX---- 43
