SPECIFICATIONS FOR PORTABLE CONVEYOR BELT FOR SALT HANDLING

The following specifications and dimensions shall apply to purchases of PORTABLE CONVEYOR BELT FOR SALT HANDLING for the Kansas Department of Transportation. The KDOT reserves the right to waive minor technicalities under this specification. Federal and State laws supersede any conflicting part of this specification.

The unit shall be a current model, new and unused, under standard production by the manufacturer, and of which parts are stocked at one or more locations in Kansas or Greater Kansas City. The requirement for parts to be stocked at locations in Kansas or Kansas City may be waived if the bidder provides an alternative parts availability plan acceptable to the Agency. All parts utilized on the unit shall be new and unused.

If bidder's proposal is accepted, the design, material and workmanship of the unit bid shall be guaranteed according to the standard factory warranty, or for one year from date of acceptance, whichever is greater. A copy of the warranty shall accompany the bid. Warranty coverage shall include costs of transporting the unit to and from dealer's shop, when outside a 150 mile radius of the delivery point.

Complete specifications and literature on the unit bid shall accompany the bid. Any exceptions to these specifications shall be indicated on the bid or on a separate attachment to the bid, labeled as such.

Any “or equal” or “equivalent” items for brand specified components shall be listed with the bid package. Complete description and literature on the “or equal” components shall be supplied for consideration by the KDOT. The burden of proof regarding “or equal” items will be upon the vendor.

PRE-DELIVERY SERVICE: The unit shall be delivered complete and fully operational. It shall be properly serviced, free of leaks, and all mechanical adjustments made prior to delivery. A minimum of three days notice prior to delivery shall be given to the person to whom the unit is to be shipped. Specification No.: MS 49.18 Page: 2 of 10

TECHNICAL SERVICE: The services of a competent technician, thoroughly trained in the use, operation and servicing of the unit, shall be furnished for a minimum period of four working hours for each delivery point. The technician shall instruct the KDOT personnel in the proper use, safety, operation and preventive maintenance of the unit and to test the unit for satisfactory performance. This instruction shall be performed on a date to be agreed upon by the District Shop Superintendent.

PRINTED MANUALS: One operator’s manual shall be supplied with each unit. Sets of manuals shall be delivered to each delivery point in quantities shown on the Request for Quotation. Sets shall consist of the following: shop manual, parts manual, and operator’s manual. The manuals shall fully and clearly cover all components of the unit. Failure to provide manuals may result in retention of 5 percent of total bid amount.

GENERAL:

______The unit is to be a portable conveying system with a ribbed rubber belt, vulcanized or spliced, used for conveying rock salt from a hopper just above ground level into a dome shaped storage.

______The unit shall be as specified in the Request for Quotation: either (1) a specific length or (2) properly sized to fill the dome through a side door for either a 41', 51' or 61' diameter dome (Figures One, Two, or Three).

POWER REQUIREMENTS:

______The unit shall be capable of being powered through a 540 rpm, tractor Power Take Off (PTO) not to exceed 115 horsepower.

______The operator’s station shall be at the hopper end of the conveyor and the belt direction and speed shall be controlled by the PTO direction and RPM. Specification No.: MS 49.18 Page: 3 of 10

CAPACITY:

______The unit shall be capable of loading a minimum of 50 tons of coarse rock salt per hour through a side door of the dome.

STRUCTURE:

______The unit shall have a 14 gauge, 304 or 201 stainless steel tube with a belt that rides inside the tube to convey salt up to the top of the tube.

______The conveyor undercarriage shall be a welded steel truss design.

______Optional pricing shall be given for utilizing 304 or 201 stainless steel instead of steel for the conveyor undercarriage. Cost: ______

______All non-stainless steel surfaces are to be properly primed and painted with an anti-corrosion paint.

______The main conveyor boom is to be hydraulically raised and lowered. The hydraulic system shall have a safety control valve to prevent the boom from collapsing.

______The unit shall have a flexible canvas hopper to funnel material onto the belt.

______The lower drive end of the unit shall have greaseable bearings with stainless steel shafts.

______All return mechanisms and all associated hardware shall be made of 304 or 201 stainless steel.

______The belt return mechanism shall be designed to guide the belt during the return path back to the drive end of the conveyer. Specification No.: MS 49.18 Page: 4 of 10

STRUCTURE (Continued):

______The belt return mechanism shall consist of a minimum of 10 Nylatron roller assemblies that will allow the entire width of the belt to lay flat on the rollers.

______Each roller assembly shall consist of a 5/8 inch stainless steel shaft with a 2 inch O.D. Nylatron roller.

______All return roller brackets shall have flanges to prevent the belt from riding sideways off of the roller.

______The 5/8 inch shaft shall be held in place with a flange that is bolted to the return roller mechanism on one side and a collar over the shaft with a bolt through the shaft & collar to secure the opposite end of the shaft from rotation.

______The unit shall have 304 or 201 stainless steel shielding along each side of the tube that extends below the rollers to protect the belt from wind and direct sunlight.

______Any exposed moving parts at the hopper end of the conveyor shall be shielded with 304 or 201 stainless steel guards to protect the operator from injury.

______The belt shall be continuous and adequately supported on both the up and the return side of the conveyor.

______The belt shall have a tear strength of 220 lb/in of width.

______Optional pricing shall be given for a diverter at the discharge spout that will deflect the salt to the left or right, controllable from the ground level hopper area. Cost: ______Specification No.: MS 49.18 Page: 5 of 10

HOPPER: (If specified in the Request for Quotation):

______The feed hopper shall be a two hopper system with a removable holding hopper set on a charging hopper.

______The holding hopper shall be a 5 cubic yard, 10 gauge, 304 or 201 stainless steel hopper.

______The top dimensions of the holding hopper shall be 10' x 8', minimum.

______The hopper shall have a ladder for inspection.

______The unit shall have an adjustable door assembly, and an adjustable hog back (inverted vee) for metering material constructed of 304 or 201 stainless steel.

______The holding hopper shall have the capability of being removed to allow the charging hopper to be used to unload directly from a truck with a grain chute type discharge.

PORTABILITY:

______The charging hopper shall have a means of metering material onto the belt such as an adjustable gate mechanism.

______The unit shall be set on two 15" wheels with tires.

______The unit shall be supplied with a heavy duty jack with dropleg, pintle hitch, and safety chain, and tail light assembly with both stop and turn lights and a 7-way plug (Standard Ignition, Plug No. TCP77M & Strain Relief No. TCP77G or equivalent).

REACH:

______Bidders shall furnish a sketch with their quotation clearly demonstrating that the unit being proposed will reach from the outside of the dome to the inside center of the dome for either a 41', 51' or 61' diameter dome (see Figures One, Two, or Three) as specified in the Request for Quotation without requiring disassembly.

______The unit shall be capable of a horizontal reach from the outside wall of the dome to the center of the opening in the top without requiring disassembly.

______Figure One is an elevation of a typical dome. Bidders shall furnish a sketch with their quotation clearly demonstrating that the unit being proposed will reach the filler opening of the dome without requiring disassembly. Spec: MS 49.18 Page: 7 of 10
