Position Title: Associate Clinical Nurse Manager, District Nursing -Whangarei

Organisation Unit: Health of Older People and Clinical Support

Location: Whangarei

Responsible to: Clinical Nurse Manager, District Nursing- Whangarei

Primary Functions of The Associate Clinical Nurse Manager will assist the Clinical the Position: Nurse Manager to deliver the required outcomes for the service and will be accountable for providing clinical coordination of the team to ensure the provision of high quality health care. The role requires the use of expert knowledge and skill in the management of patients, providing direct care as required, including the effective leadership and management of patient outcomes.

The position of Associate Clinical Nurse Manager encompasses the following major functions or key result areas:

 To provide clinical expertise and direction to the Nursing Team to enable patient focused care within a multi-disciplinary setting  To coordinate effectively and efficiently the provision of quality care which is professional and patient focused to ensure quality patient outcomes  To effectively coordinate the day to day activities of the ward and staff  To provide clinical leadership and supervision of the nursing team  To facilitate the development of nursing skills and knowledge of the nursing team  Demonstrates a commitment to quality of Service Delivery  Treaty of Waitangi  Health and Safety

Systems & Resources  Actively participates in recruitment process.  Work with CNM to establish/maintain a system for determining skill mix.  Work with CNM to ensure rosters are prepared and managed within the budget and in reference to acuity, skill mix, and scope of practice and Safe Staffing guidelines.  Report sick leave and requests cover on a shift-by-shift basis to meet patient care needs.  Provide timely information in relation to staffing, resource management, and equipment and patient concerns to the CNM. Contribute to identifying equipment for purchase under Capital Expenditure. Treaty of Waitangi  Contribute to the promotion of the principles of Treaty of Waitangi and the involvement of Maori within the decision making process for their health and independence, within District Health Board management processes and procedures.  Include the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi within all aspects of the role and its outcomes.  Ensure that consultation and engagement processes include appropriate mechanisms to meet the need of Maori in a culturally appropriate and safe manner.  Attend the NDHB Maori Health Cultural Quality Programme.

Health & Safety  Ensure compliance with designated responsibilities detailed in Northland District Health Board’s Health and Safety Policy and annual objectives.  Promote an environment of physical, occupational, cultural, ethical and legal safety.  Participate in the organisation’s Health and Safety Management training programme.  Observe and promote safe work practices, rules and instructions relating to work, and be pro-active in hazard management.  Willingly co-operate in the achievement of all health and safety goals and initiatives by:  Practicing and observing safe work methods;  The use of safety equipment;  Reporting unsafe conditions or equipment; and  Reporting and documenting all accidents or incidents

Education and Qualifications Essential Desirable  Registration and a current practicing  Holds or is working towards a Clinical certificate with the Nursing Council of Masters in Nursing incorporating Health New Zealand Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning  New Zealand Driving License and Applied Science for Nurses  Post Graduate study in Chronic Care  Willingness to participate in the DHB  Teaching/Assessing certificate PDRP or similar  Post Graduate study in  Management/Leadership

Experience Essential Desirable
