St. Mary’s Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes

February 17, 2011

Members Present: Father James, Bobbie Jo Miller, Brian Flynn, Phil Smith, Janice Schafer, Craig Pohl, Taylor Feldpausch, Sheri Wohlfert, Mike Prince

Members Absent: Kevin Rademacher, Eunice Arens, Jeff Rehmann, Deacon Chuck Thelen

Meeting called to order at 7:08 p.m.

Opening Prayer

Approval of Minutes: Motion by Janice Schafer and second by Taylor Feldpausch.

Ministry Reports:

Youth Ministry and Music Director Report: Brian Flynn reported that there is discussion about reestablishing an adult choir. More information will be publicized when the plan for this is completed.

A Youth Encounter is coming up this coming Sunday at Bethany House and April 17 at the Lansing Catholic Central Gym. There is a high school retreat June 24-26 (Fowler), and July 8-10 (Steubenville).

A concert at the Ark is being planned for February 18 after the Fulton Game.

There was discussion of the Ark and efforts to move back to what was the original vision, i.e. addressing the spiritual and social aspects of 11-12 grade youth with special activities.

RCIA: No Report.

Evangelization/Ministry Report: There was discussion of the weekly update/newsletter, a men’s group update (40 attending), and an update on the encounter series (60 attending). There were 101 in attendance at this morning’s Bible Study. There was discussion of letters to religious orders. There will be a retreat May 20-21 on spiritual direction for 20-40 people.

Other Discussions: There was discussion of the future of the Pastoral Council and possibly combining the Council with the Worship and Evangelization Committee due to the amount of overlap between the two groups. There will be more discussions. Nothing would take place until September.

Old Business

Father discussed the concept of a “Kids Corner” on the Parish web site. A Catholic Families section has already been added on the web site and everyone is encouraged to check them out.
