GO FOR THE GOLD! Brooke Grove Reading Incentive Program

Dear Brooke Grove Students and Parents,

Welcome to our 2016-2017 GO FOR THE GOLD Reading Incentive Program, which will run from Wednesday, November 2, 2016 through Monday, March 13, 2017.

PROGRAM GUIDELINES:

 Students read at home. Parents may assist students who are not yet independent readers. The books or articles read for this program should be appropriate for the students’ reading level, age, and interest.

 After reading, students need to record the total number of minutes read each day on the attached calendars. Then, parents need to mark their initials for each day the students read and sign the bottom of the page.

 At the end of each month, students should add up the number of minutes they read for that month, and record the total minutes at the bottom of the page.

 Students should bring their calendars to school and hand them in to their homeroom teacher on the assigned dates, which are listed at the bottom of each calendar page.

 At the beginning of each month, we will make a whole-school announcement to honor the medalists from the previous month. Awards will be given to honor students who read enough minutes to achieve each level.

AGAIN THIS YEAR: If a student reads enough minutes to qualify for the GOLD Level more than once, his/her name will be added to a raffle for an additional award. Names will be pulled and announced at our GO FOR THE GOLD Closeout Assembly. The best way to become a better reader is to

CALENDAR DUE DATES

November calendars are due to teachers by Thursday, December 1, 2016. December calendars are due to teachers by Wednesday, January 4, 2017. January calendars are due to teachers by Wednesday, February 1, 2017. February/March calendars are due to teachers by Monday, March 13, 2017.

CLASS AWARDS EACH MONTH Each month, the class with the highest average of minutes read per student in the Primary Grades (Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2) and the class with the highest average of minutes read per student in the Upper Grades (Grades 3, 4, and 5) will receive a certificate and class treat.
