Scouting Guidelines for the 2013 NDT

Before the tournamant:

1) Fill out the contact info form so the scouting table can get in touch with you if we need additional information. It can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1n2n_Y0Jo5XCcUeejZBV5JZfoCxcG_ wobPhIYrugOzPk/viewform 2) Install verbatim on your computer. This will be necessary so you can upload/format cites appropriately. Instructions for installing verbatim are here http://opencaselist.paperlessdebate.com/bin/view/Main/ 3) Make sure you have a tabroom.com account so you can make changes to the wiki.

Before Each Round: Check in with the scouting table 15 minutes after a pairing comes out for your assignment. Requests to scout certain debates will be done on a first come, first served basis. It is in your interest to be at the scouting table early if you would like to scout specific debates.

During the Round: 1) Don’t accept “we will take care of posting cites” from teams. If they say that it is your responsibility to verify that they do post it. Otherwise offer to be of assistance in completing the task in a timely manner.

2) The scouting info needs to be easy to access and read. You should make an entry in the top section called “cites” for each off case argument/advantage a team reads and include cites for it. If a team is also open source then you can attach that document as well. Posting open source docs is not a replacement for making an entry for each of the arguments they read.

3) If a team does not use verbatim or still debates on paper you will need to reformat/type up the cite document. It is vital that this formatting be the same for all scouting documents to keep the wiki organized and keep new info easy to find. 4) Each entry (whether under “cites” or “opensource”) should begin with the NDT Rd X designation so it is clear that is recent scouting info from this tournament.

5) Each entry should be on the page that already exists for each team. Post round, scout gets all the speech documents from the teams.

Scout creates a master document in Verbatim with all the teams cards from the round and organizes it well using pockets/hats/block titles, etc.

If a team is open source, Scout posts that combined document to the wiki.

For all teams, Scout uses the "convert to wiki" button in Verbatim to convert the document to cite-ready format and wiki syntax.

Scout posts the formatted wiki syntax to the wiki as a new entry (or several).

For teams that don't use Verbatim or don’t have speech docs, the Scout can still convert it to a cite entry before posting it or take other reasonable steps to prett-ify the document before posting.

6) When you have uploaded your cites go to the Google spreadsheet and put a Y in the column for your round so we know we can double check that debate.

7) If we have follow up questions on your document we will text you as quickly as possible to get additional information.
