Applications are invited for two full-time tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointments will begin July 1, 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Position Number 05278: Assistant Professor in the area of Recreation
Qualifications Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Recreation Studies or a related discipline. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship, including the ability to attract external funding and to maintain a program of research leading to publication in refereed journals.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will teach and supervise students in the undergraduate and graduate programs, develop and conduct an externally funded research program, and provide service to the University and community. Expertise in areas related to recreation, sport, and event management, and areas and facilities planning is a priority.
Position Number 05279: Assistant Professor in the area of Physical Education (pedagogy)
Qualifications Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Physical Education or a related discipline. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship, including the ability to attract external funding and to maintain a program of research leading to publication in refereed journals.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will teach students in the undergraduate and graduate programs, supervise graduate students, develop and conduct an externally funded research program and provide service to the community and to the University. Preference will be given to candidates qualified to teach in the areas of physical and health education with a focus on pedagogy. Expertise in specific course areas such as design and assessment of physical activity, human movement, developmental games, sport, gymnastics and dance is a priority.
Faculty Information The Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation Studies offers undergraduate degrees in Physical Education (B.P.E.), Kinesiology (B.Kin) and Recreation Management and Community Development (B.R.M.C.D.), as well as a Master of Science degree, and a Master of Arts in the area of Recreation Studies. A multi-faculty Ph.D. program in Applied Health Sciences will be initiated effective July 1, 2007. Approximately 400 undergraduate and 35 graduate students are enrolled in the Faculty. The Health, Leisure and Human Performance Research Institute actively facilitates interdisciplinary research within the Faculty.
