CLASSROOM GUIDELINES & PROCEDURES 1. MATERIALS NECESSARY FOR CLASS EVERYDAY : A. Three-ring binder B. Notebook paper 2. CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR- our classroom is meant to be a place of learning. In order to help us achieve our best, it is important to remember the following A. COOPERATION/ RESPECTFUL:  Allowing others to speak and work without interruption or distraction.  Encourage others to learn and participate  Avoiding language that insults, hurts, or offends others. Don’t put yourself or others down.  Participating in class activities as requested.  Active listening, working together, coaching, and encouragement of others.  I will not try to control your behavior. This is your job and responsibility. If you have trouble controlling your behavior and/or your impulses, I will talk to you and try to help you with it. B. PREPARED:  Have all materials needed for that class (i.e. pen, paper, binder, homework, lab, etc.)  You will be graded on your own work  Zero tolerance for Cheating!! Examples of cheating are: a. “Similar” lab reports may have scores adjusted (i.e. share a grade). b. Using any material such as notes or class work not expressly permitted by the teacher or talking during a test or quiz will result in a zero for that assessment. c. Plagiarism: copying textbook, resources, or classmate’s work.  Restroom and lockers visits should take place before the class period is scheduled to begin. Only one student at a time will be permitted to leave the classroom at any given time.  This is an Honors class and it is supposed to be challenging. You will be asked to figure things out on your own. Don’t expect me to spoon-feed you some information you then memorize and throw right back at me. There will be a lot of inquiry related activities. Try, and if you can’t get it right away, try again and then try some more. Be patient, ask questions and persevere. C. RESPONSIBILITY Attendance  Late Arrivals: Zero tolerance for lateness. Treat our class like work: be on time and ready to get started. I will be a stickler about this.  Absences & Responsibility: The student is responsible for all class work and assignments given during a student’s absence from school or class. GET SOMEONE’S PHONE NUMBER IN THE CLASS and check with them if you miss a day.  Extended Absences (greater than 2 days): Students must make arrangements with me or via the counselor’s office or on the 1st day back, for completion of all missed work.  Early Dismissals/ Planned Absences: If a student is to be excused from class for any reason, a. Assignments must be turned in before leaving b. Arrangements for make-up work to be completed must be made prior to the absence. (including tests and labs) otherwise a zero will be granted. c. This is the responsibility of the student. Equipment & Handouts  Equipment Responsibility: The student will be charged the replacement cost for anything s/he is responsible for breaking.  Graffiti: Anyone found writing on, or in any way defacing desks, chairs, labs, etc. will be dealt with according to the school code or by the teacher at the beginning of class.

3. HOMEWORK: A. Homework is always due at the beginning of class. Note: NO LATE HOMEWORK IS ACCEPTED. IF YOU ARE ABSENT THE DAY HOMEWORK IS DUE, HAVE IT READY THE DAY YOU COME BACK.

4. GRADES: A. All work will be assigned specific point values. You will be able to calculate your current grade at any point in the marking period by calculating: total earned points/ total available points. c. It is your responsibility to keep track of your own grades! Keep up with filling your gradesheet. 5. EXAMS & QUIZZES: A. EXAMS WILL BE ANNOUNCED APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK AHEAD. B. Quizzes will generally be announced ahead of time, but not necessarily. Some pop quizzes will be given without prior warning. Come to class prepared for a quiz each day. d. Absences & Tests: Because tests are announced well in advance, be prepared to take the test the day it is scheduled, even if you are absent 2 days before the test (except in the case of extended absences). 6. FORMATS FOR ALL ASSIGNMENTS (WHEN APPLICABLE) A. Paper Headings: All assignments should have the following six items in the heading. Chapter Number or Unit Name Student’s Name Assignment (Question # or Assignment Title) Date Page Number(s) Class Period B. Question Format:  Each question is to be answered in complete sentence form unless otherwise specified.  Do not plagiarize the textbook or any other resources in your answer.

Your Textbook  Glencoe Science BIOLOGY The Dynamics of Life  You can access an interactive version of your text online at o www.bdol.glencoe.com o Username: BDOL04 (the second 0 is a zero) o Password: zAfaqase5u  This website has lots of interactive activities including reading guides, quizzes, interactive tutor, practice tests, web links and extension ideas. It is a great study resource and I highly recommend you use it. The test and quiz questions will be similar to the ones you see in class test and quizzes. Sometimes I will require you to do some of these for homework.
