MINUTES CITY OF SUWANEE, GA DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MEETING October 16, 2012 Suwanee City Hall

Attending DDA members: James Davenport, Beth Hilscher, Julie Perdue, Dax Flinn Absent: Kevin O’Brien, Rob Rohloff (one vacancy) Staff: Denise Brinson, Jimmy Burnette (resigned from the DDA September, 2012), Alison Starnes

Call to Order Alison Starnes called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m.

Adoption of Agenda Beth Hilscher moved to adopt the agenda (James Davenport 2nd). Motion approved 4-0.

Approval of Minutes Beth Hilscher moved to approve the minutes for the August 30, 2012 meeting (Dax Flinn 2nd). Motion approved 4-0.

Vice Chair Appointment Julie Perdue moved to appoint Beth Hilscher as DDA Vice Chair (James Davenport 2nd). Motion approved 4-0.

Review National Register Information Kevin O’Brien has requested that the DDA proceed with the application process for a National Historic Registry District in the Old Town area. Alison Starnes reported there has been some opposition from some of the residents. Discussion ensued. Julie Perdue moved that the DDA continue with the application process for the National Registry District (Dax Flinn 2nd). Motion approved 4-0.

Façade Grant Application Alison Starnes reported that work has been completed for the two Main Street façade grant applications (583 and 587 Main Street). Susan Carpenter (city building inspector) said the work has been satisfactorily completed. Alison explained to applicant that they will need to turn in documentation showing payment and completion of the work such receipts, bank statements, etc. Julie Perdue moved to reimburse the applicant upon receipt of needed documentation (Dax Flinn 2nd). Motion approved 4-0.

Downtown Business Association Alison Starnes reported that the Town Center businesses are changing their meeting time to the first Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. Alison also reported that staff is evaluating the downtown gift certificate program. They will determine in the next month if the program will continue.

Other Alison Starnes stated that Mayor Jimmy Burnette has offered to host another informal gathering at his home on October 20 for the various City boards that relate to downtown. The focus for this gathering is “the arts” and the NGAA is also being invited to participate.

Adjournment James Davenport moved to adjourn the meeting (Dax Flinn 2nd). Motion approved 4-0. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 a.m.
