The Rules: He/she who wins two out of three games shall be declared the winner of a match. The loser of one match will move to the Losers’ Bracket where she/he will have another opportunity to play for the championship, as this is a DOUBLE ELIMINATION Tournament. If a competitor loses twice, he or she is eliminated from the tournament. Game time shall be four minutes with a two-second, accumulating delay. “Take-backs” are not allowed. A player may touch or even move a piece (putting it back if he/she chooses not to move that piece, of course). A move is final when the moving player hits the clock plunger. Competitors must hit the clock plunger with the same hand that they move the pieces. The player of the white chessmen shall determine upon which side of the board the clock shall be positioned for each game Chessmen colors for the first game shall be determined when one player conceals a black pawn in one hand and a white pawn in the other; the other competitor chooses a hand and plays that color for the first game. Competitors will then switch colors for the second game. The players’ colors of games three and four (if need be) shall be determined in the same way as the first game’s players were determined. Competitors are to follow the Rules of Chess Etiquette that are clearly posted in the region. After a match is completed, please write the name of the winner into the appropriate bracket in pencil. The advisors will pen in the name later.
