A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Arlie "Pooh" Hill III. WHEREAS, Pooh Hill was a son of the Commonwealth, having been born in Somerset on November 7, 1975, the cherished son of the late Arlie Hill, Jr., and Virginia Ruth Foster Hill; and WHEREAS, Pooh Hill was a Lieutenant with the Whitley City Fire Department, where he had volunteered for more than ten years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He was a Certified Nursing Assistant at the South Fork Medical Center, and was much beloved in his community for his sense of humor and his selfless dedication to helping others; and WHEREAS, on August 30, 2013, believing that a child was trapped inside, Pooh Hill entered a neighbor's burning home. Lt. Hill, who was not on duty at the time and was without protective gear, bravely rushed into the home with his brother-in-law, Adam Stephens, a fellow firefighter. Finding the home empty, the two men attempted to escape but a "flashover" trapped Lt. Hill in the living room. Although Mr. Stephens was able to revive him, Lt. Hill would suffer burns to 90 percent of his body and lose his extraordinary fight to live two months later; and WHEREAS, this honorable body rightfully honors those Kentuckians who go beyond the call of duty to ensure the safety of their fellow Kentuckians. Pooh Hill is one such individual, and is hereby commended by this body today for his profound sacrifice to his fellow man, his career of extraordinary service to his fellow citizens of Whitley City, and his uncommon courage in the face of gravest danger; and WHEREAS, Pooh Hill departed this earthly life on October 27, 2013, joining in heaven his father and his brother, James Rufus Hill. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharen Hill; his children, Arlie "Kyle" Hill and Taylor Grace Hill; his mother; his sister, Amy Wilson and her husband, Grady; his brother, Phillip "Brian" Hill and his wife, Christy; his special brother, Adam Stephens and his wife, Karen; his mother- and father-
