[4321] 2 1 2 Whereas, Representative Nathan Ballentine established the 3 Bernard Carroll Ballentine Scholarship in 2006 in honor of his 4 paternal grandfather who passed away in 1976 and in furtherance 5 of his commitment to return his legislative salary to the 6 community. Bernard Carroll Ballentine graduated from Irmo High 7 School, served with honor in the United States Army during World 8 War II, and was a former fire chief in Columbia; and 9 10 Whereas, the Bernard Carroll Ballentine Scholarship is awarded 11 annually to one highschool senior who plans to attend the 12 University of South Carolina; and 13 14 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 15 Representatives are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize 16 such a noteworthy student and fine young woman as Hannah 17 Marie Knowles, an outstanding daughter of Richland County and 18 of this State, who has brought pride to her family, school, and 19 community. Now, therefore, 20 21 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 22 23 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 24 by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Hannah Marie 25 Knowles, of Richland County, on being selected to receive the 26 2011 Bernard Carroll Ballentine Scholarship, and wish her success 27 as she embarks on her college career at the University of South 28 Carolina. 29 30 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 31 Hannah Marie Knowles. 32 XX 33
