Afton, VA – On September 24th, in conjunction with its Fall Convention and Annual Meeting at the Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, Virginia, the Unified Virginia Chiropractic Association (Unified VCA) named Dr. Joseph M. Foley of Salem, Virginia its 2016 Chiropractor of the Year.

After graduating from Life Chiropractic College in 1990, Dr. Joe Foley and his wife, Dr. Diane DeReu- Foley, set up practice in Salem, Virginia. They have been caring for the people in the Roanoke Valley ever since, focusing on families seeking better health by caring for the spine and nervous system. Dr. Foley is a Fellow of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (FICPA). Readers of the area’s local magazine, So Salem, voted Dr. Foley the "Best Chiropractor for 2016."

Dr. Foley has shared his talents and leadership skills since the beginning of his chiropractic career. In 1994, just four years after setting up practice, he was named the Virginia Society of Chiropractors’ (the Society) Chiropractor of the Year. He served as president of the Society, as well as legislative chair and association manager. Dr. Foley was an integral part of the group of Virginia doctors representing the Society and the Virginia Chiropractic Association that started “unification talks” in 2006 and spearheaded the unification of those two organizations in 2009.

When the Society and the VCA came together to form the Unified VCA in 2009, Dr. Foley continued to serve as co-chair of the Legislative Committee. He also serves on the Unified VCA’s Philosophy & Ethics Committee; the Board of the Virginia C-PAC; and helps UVCA members with cash practice, legislative and other complex issues.

Dr. Foley enjoys and is an expert in chiropractic history – both Virginia and beyond. He serves as a Director on the Board of the Association for the History of Chiropractic and is a regular contributor to the organization’s peer-reviewed journal. Dr. Foley has seven published articles on chiropractic history and collects chiropractic memorabilia. From left: Dr. Tom Wetzen, 2015 Chiropractor of the Year and Immediate Past President; Dr. Joe Foley, 2016 Chiropractor of The Awards Committee unanimously selected Dr. the Year; Dr. David Dolberg, UVCA President and 2012 Foley. The committee observed that Dr. Foley Chiropractor of the Year. gives selfless service beyond his local community to improve the practice of chiropractic on a far-reaching scale. It felt that he consistently demonstrates a dedication to support legislation that allows ALL chiropractors the right to practice as they please (within their scope of practice). As a person, doctor and leader, “he is a considerate and approachable guy who listens with interest and without judgement.”

Chiropractor of the Year nominations are submitted to a committee comprised of the previous three recipients of this top Unified VCA award. For this year, that committee consisted of Dr. Tom Wetzen, Dr. Will Sonak, and Dr. Bibhu Misra. For additional photos or details, contact Ms. Julie K. Connolly, Unified VCA Executive Director, at 540-932-3100 or via email at [email protected].
