SPC. Rafael Hernando Middle School PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY SOCORRO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 2016-2017

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE SPC. Rafael Hernando Middle school is committed to the goal of providing quality education for every child in this school. The involvement of parents, grandparents, caregivers, community members, teachers, faculty and staff, creates a partnership that will help accomplish our objectives. We recognize that parents play an extremely important role as the children's first teachers. Grade level goals for the students at SPC. Rafael Hernando Middle will be distributed to all parents in the school, with the expectation that all students will work towards these goals. We recognize that some students may need the extra assistance to meet these goals. Title I Programs as well as other programs are available to this campus in order to meet these goals. SPC. Rafael Hernando Middle will include parents in all aspects of the school's Title I Program. The goal is a school-home partnership that will help all students in the school to succeed.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IN POLICY DEVELOPMENT An advisory Committee consisting of parents, community, members, faculty and administrators has met to develop our schools Parental Involvement Policy. This committee will also meet at least annually to update the policy to meet the changing needs of students and campus.

ANNUAL MEETING FOR TITLE I PARENTS/CAREGIVERS The annual meeting will be held in the evening and again the morning for the convenience of parents. Translation will be available if needed. Parents will be sent written notices about the meetings times and will also be contacted through Outcall System. SPC. Rafael Hernando Middle School will hold at least one meeting in the spring and once in the fall, and review Title I guidelines and services offered through the school.

PARENT- SCHOOL- STUDENT COMPACT As a component of the campus-level parental involvement policy, each Title I Part A campus, must develop jointly with, and make available to, parents of participating children a school-parent compact that is designed to increase the sharing of responsibility between families and schools for the high performance of students. Parents and teachers, as well as school administrators who will be responsible for carrying out the compact or their designated representatives should participate in its development. Every parent should receive a copy of the school-parent compact from the campus his/her child is attending. Parents are urged to discuss the compact with their children before signing or having their children sign.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES SPC. Rafael Hernando Middle School will provide a variety of opportunities for parents, students and faculty to work together. Each year we will assess the need of parents and children in our community, through a variety of measures-such as, questionnaires sent home to parents. Workshops and other trainings will be available to match the expressed needs of the school community. Programs that will continue to be available at our campus will include:

STAFF - PARENT COMMUNICATION Communication with parents will include a School Newsletter distributed four times each year. There will also be notices; monthly calendar of events, Homework planner, phone calls, conferences, and home visits as needed. Parents are encouraged to take the initiative in calling their child's teacher when they are concerned about a problem. Notices sent home will be in English and Spanish.

EVALUATION There will be an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the Title I parental involvement programs and events that will ask for parent input. The evaluation will include an assessment of how much parental involvement is increasing and what barriers to parental participation still need to be overcome. The campus will revise its Parental Involvement Policy on the basis of this annual review. Annual evaluations or surveys will be used in determining strategies for school improvement in revising the parental involvement policies at both the district and campus levels.
