MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 20, 2017 MEETING
Roger Nelson, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:07 P.M.
MEMBER’S PRESENT: Roger Nelson, Chairman, Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham, Vice- Chairman, Connie Nelson, Sue Cannon, Cindy Cooper, Emily Ahern, and Douglas Glazier.
ALSO, PRESENT: Ann Marie Claffey, Director.
ABSENT: John Sullivan, Municipal Agent, Barbara Sullivan, Peter Lambert.
PUBLIC: None.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: Upon a motion by Sue Cannon, and seconded by Cindy Cooper, the October 16, 2017 minutes were approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Treasurers Report/Budget and CONA Fund Report provided by the Finance Department as of October 31, 2017. There will be a Budget Appeals/CIAC meeting with the Board of Finance on Tuesday, November 28 at 6:30 PM. Ann Marie will be attending to discuss the previously requested increase of the Bus Director’s hours to increase her responsibilities. She would like members of CONA to attend.
BUS COORDINATOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the October, 2017 report. Discussion followed about the 2002 Bus which has been taken off the road due to problems with deterioration of the body. As repairs would be very expensive, Ann Marie will be looking for an alternative. She will also apply for a new bus in 2018 but even if we are approved in 2018, delivery could take a year.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Director’s Report.
No news on replacement of our Recording Secretary.
Programs and Upcoming events: Medicare Workshops every Monday, Twelve Days of Christmas at the Center beginning December 6 with a Bus Trip to Bright Nights. This is followed by special events each day through December 22 including a Spa Day, Holiday Bingo, Candlelight Breakfast and other great entertainment. Center bus trips: Shopping at Boscov’s (11-29).
Charter Trips include: Christmas Memories Dean Martin Show (12/4), Radio City Christmas NYC (12-6), UCONN Basketball, Mohegan, (12/19), Virginia International Tattoo (4-23/27-18), Bermuda Cruise (4-20/27-18) and The Real Quebecois (7-23/27- 18). CONA November 20, 2017 page 2
New and exciting trips for 2018 include Hamilton at the Bushnell, UCONN Champions Center tour, Providence Italian Style, Wine, Wine and more Wine, Lake Winnipesaukee Turkey Train, Medieval Times, Lake George, The Ice Cream Train, Gettysburg, Cape May, a Mystery Tour, Shaker for a Day, Beneath the Breakers, Culinary Institute and Bobby Rydell Show.
December Casino trip to Foxwoods (12-12).
Locks Fitness Center had approximately 231 visits in October.
COMMITTEE REPORT AND ACTIONS: a) Transportation Committee: No Report.
MUNICIPAL AGENT REPORT: No Report.
OLD BUSINESS:
By-Laws Update: Motion by Cindy Cooper, seconded by Sue Cannon to accept the CONA By- Laws. Motion by Sue Cannon, seconded by Cindy Cooper to accept the Transportation and Senior Center Policies and Procedures. All members voted to accept and new sections of the Handbook were distributed.
NEW BUSINESS:
Elections: With a motion by Sue Cannon and seconded by Connie Nelson, Roger Nelson was re- elected Chairman. With a motion by Cindy Cooper and seconded by Sue Cannon, Rosemary Hogan was re-elected Vice Chairman. . CHAIRMAN'S REMARKS: December 18, 2017 is our next CONA meeting.
