Vision Screening with Lions Club

VISION SCREENING WITH LIONS CLUB

 August contact Lions Vision screening people about when they are available – Program director John Hickey 548-1615  Pick date and schedule screening, be sure most of students will be there.  Contact parent about date of screening usually with a letter or in newsletter.  Get a couple volunteers to get students and help students that need help  Screening area needs to be able to darken, will need a table for computers, need out lets)  Email class list to Lion volunteers so they can enter names in computer before screening day. This saves time.  Make copies of class list for screener and 2-3 copies for school volunteers (I like to have a couple extra volunteers who get the classes, do crowd control with students, and help the kindergarten, 1st graders and special needs students)

Supplies  Window covers  Class lists x 4  Lamp  Thumb drive  Multi outlet extension cord

Day of screening  Set up room  Have one person with Lions person doing screening, to assist him and to mark off students as they come through and mark ones who need to be referred  Have one volunteer get students, one to send them to screener and one for crowd control.  Have Lions put the screenings onto your thumb drive the day of screening.

Follow up  Copy Thumb drive to designated school computer so school can file screenings to students files  Print all referrals  Mail referral letter and screening print out to parents.  If student needs financial to get vision exam contact Lions for help  Month later check to see who has returned letter that shows student has been seen by vision specialist  May need to schedule a 2nd screening if many students were absent, can ask Lions back
