Welcome & Adoption of Agenda - adopted by Lubna, 2nd by Jane
Secretary’s Report and Adoption of March Minutes - Minutes adopted by Trudy, 2nd by Stacey
Treasurer’s Report - see report for more details - $15 000 was moved from DAT to Technology - Scoreboard and Signage can be rolled into something else - $5000 to be taken out of Pizza and into Technology - Non-Student Fund can be allocated somewhere - Motion by Jane for $500 towards Angel Fund; 2nd by Stacey. All in Favor
Principal’s Report - TJS Board Budget Report – see for details - Majority of the Money goes to PROGRAM DELIVERY (classroom resources, consumable, musical instruments, physical educations, etc. - We are given $22,000 for student for fees (school agendas, Dreambox license, busing for field trips, speakers) - TEXTBOOKS & LIBRARY: $28,0000 - TECHNOLOGY: $10,000 - FURNITURE/EQUIPMENT: $4,000 Classroom desk & office furniture - This week is Mental Health Week: Students made stress balls - Wednesday night is Parent/Family Night - There will be Yoga, Mindful Coloring, Nutrition - Tuesday, May 2, 2017 is the kick off assembly for Jump Rope for Heart - Thursday, May 4th night – Student of Excellence Ceremony and Avery Mende-Gibson (one of the Grade 8 students) will be receiving this award - Friday, May 5, 2017 Track & Field is cancelled and will be held on another day. - Week of May 8th will be busy with Shrek the Musical. Musical will be presented to the school during the day on Tuesday & Wednesday. And on May 10th & 11th, families can attend the play in the evening. Tickets are almost sold out so buy tickets if you plan on attending - Week after will be Track and Field and there will also be a Kindie Night (for new kindies coming to our school) - May 18, 2017: Club 150 & Shrek cast will be going to watch a musical play about Terry Fox - May 19, 2017: Jump Rope for Heart - EQAO: Ramadan start May 27th - May 23-26 Grade 6’s will write the test; Make-up day May 27th - May 29-June 1 Grade 3’s will write the test; Make-up Day is June 5th - May 24th Jr/Int Jazz Band Concert will be held in the gym - May 29th Sr. Track Day - May 30th Tiger Assembly - Kindergarten Concert will be held on the following days: May 30th K6-8, May 31st K4&5, June 1st K1-3; Concert will be held from 6:30-7:00pm - Union Gas has given us $1000 towards building a shade structure and Suzanne Burwell is coming out soon to look at planning - We will be getting an outdoor shed by the dumpster for more storage - Tell them from Me Survey is coming out in a few weeks - Board survey came out today
Movie Update - Movie nights are going well - Last movie night was a great turnout with 113 people in attendance - June 9th will be our last movie night of the school year. Feature movie is Lego Batman (pre-release) - Some students (grade 6-8) have asked to come to Movie Night without their parents - Movie Nights is meant to be a community builder for families so it’s better that these older students still attend with their families
PRO Grant - looking at Internet Safety/Social Media and nothing really panned out; Decided to apply for grant focusing on Mental Health - application is due at the end of May. - Mental Health through Arts - There will be a Parent Session and workshops during the day for the students - Details to be sorted once we find out if we receive the grant money
Any Other Business - Staff Appreciation: in past we have used Council money. Unfortunately, we cannot use council money to host an appreciation luncheon for the TJS Staff - Instead this year, we will send out an email to the school community to do a nice little potluck for June 2nd on the PD Day - EQAO scribes: Looking for volunteers to help scribe with EQAO testing. Do not need to be a certified teacher. Asking for parent volunteers and will get training from Dave Valentine. Need scribers more for Grade 3 (last week of May) - Funds were requested for Kay Casey to provide landscaping services; $855 was requested for 4 days of work and material; Motion by Trudy, 2nd Stacey, Majority in favor - Derek looking for TJS School Constitution; Krista has contacted the Board looking for a copy. - Volunteer Tea is being held May 16th in the morning in the library.
