POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Extension Animal Science 4-H and Youth Specialist – Assistant Extension Specialist

LOCATION: Department of Animal Science, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This is an 11-month non-tenure track faculty position, 100% extension. In the area of Extension youth livestock programs/projects/events/activities in the Department of Animal Science, this person is expected to: 1) provide overall programmatic leadership and coordination; 2) develop documented, creative subject matter expertise for curriculum development, assessment and evaluation; create documented, innovative new programs; develop and disseminate improved, innovative member guides and instructional materials; and foster intellectual enrichment and scholarship for Animal Science youth programs; 3) provide appropriate training programs and printed materials for Extension personnel, volunteer leaders, managers of state shows/fairs and youth, and coordinate policies and procedures for participation of youth at contests/fairs/events with State 4-H and FFA personnel and events managers; and 4) liaison with Animal Science faculty and staff, State 4-H and youth development specialists, Extension educators, area livestock specialists, 4-H volunteer leaders, state FFA personnel and agricultural teachers, industry and breed association personnel, fair/show managers, and farm and youth organizations; and 5) provide assistance to other extension specialists with Animal Science youth responsibilities including contributing to the DASNR Second Century 4-H Developing Community Leaders and Animal Enterprise teams.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s degree is required with at least one degree in Animal Science and practical knowledge/experience with livestock and Animal Science youth programs. Other considerations will include academic excellence; leadership ability, effective communications and interpersonal skills; and ability to work cooperatively with faculty and staff, state 4-H youth development specialists, Extension educators, 4-H volunteer leaders, state FFA personnel and agricultural teachers, industry and breed association personnel, fair/show managers, farm and youth organizations and youth. The individual selected must have the ability to coordinate and develop effective youth development extension activities, programming, training, curriculum/participation materials, and assist in coordinating and establishing policies and procedures for participation.

RANK: Assistant Extension Specialist (M.S., non-tenure track faculty)

SALARY: Commensurate with training, experience and demonstrated ability.

As stated within the position announcement, minimum requirements include a Master's degree with at least one degree in Animal Science, and practical knowledge/experience with livestock and Animal Science youth programs. The person in this position must display academic excellence, effective leadership, excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The person must display the ability to work cooperatively with others including faculty and staff, state 4-H and youth development specialists, Extension Educators, 4-H volunteer leaders, state FFA personnel and agriculture teachers, youth and those in organizations with activities in youth development and Animal Science. This position will be 100% extension. Specific responsibilities include:

1. Provide overall programmatic leadership and coordination for effective Cooperative Extension Animal Science youth development activities.

2. Develop, distribute, assess and evaluate documented, creative subject matter curriculum for Animal Science youth programs.

3. Prepare materials and programs that train Extension personnel, volunteer leaders, managers of state shows/fairs, and youth.

4. Conduct and coordinate 4-H and Animal Science youth development activities with other faculty, staff, volunteers, youth, and groups that have youth related responsibilities, activities and interests.

5. Liaison, assist and interact with other faculty, staff and organizational groups who have 4-H and youth development related responsibilities, activities and interests.
