Take the time to accurately reflect on the season and use this as a learning experience to improve yourself and your program. 1. Planning and Preparation A. Coaching Philosophy- Unsatisfactory- Coach does not have philosophy towards program. Basic- Coach has philosophy towards program, but does not effectively communicate with players, and parents. Proficient- Coach has philosophy towards program and shares it with players and parents. Distinguished- Coach has well-developed philosophy towards program, and effectively communicates it with players, parents, and all involved in program. B. Meeting with team- Unsatisfactory- Coach does not hold pre-season meetings with players, and parents to discuss philosophy of program, and rules and regulations of sport. Basic- Coach holds pre-season meeting with athletes, and parents to discuss philosophy of program, and rules and regulations. Proficient- Coach holds a clear and accurate pre-season meeting with players, and parents to discuss philosophy of program, and rules and regulations. Distinguished- Coach holds a clear and accurate pre-season meeting with players, and parents to discuss philosophy of program, and rules and regulations. Coach makes himself available for questions regarding meeting. C. Practice Schedules- Unsatisfactory- Coach has no clear practice schedule. Basic- Coach has practice schedule with recognizable structure. Coach also follows practice schedule. Proficient- Coach has clear and organized practice schedule, and uses staff to its potential. Coach also follows practice schedule. Distinguished- Coach has clear and well-organized practice schedule that uses staff to its potential. Practice schedule is also flexible according to players needs. Coach also follows practice schedule. 2. Service Delivery A. Communication- Unsatisfactory- Coach does not communicate well with players, assistant coaches, Athletics Director, parents, and administration. Basic- Coach has adequate communication with players, assistant coaches, Athletics Director, parents, and administration. Proficient- Coach has regular communication (meetings, parent letters) with players, assistant coaches, Athletics Director, parents, and administration. Distinguished- Coach has definite plans for communication with players, assistant coaches, Athletics Director, parents, and administration. Consistent pattern for communication is evident. B. Motivation- Unsatisfactory- Team and players are unmotivated. Basic- Team and players are motivated. Proficient- Team and players are consistently motivated. Distinguished- Team and players are highly motivated, and maintain motivation throughout duration of season. 3. Professional Responsibilities A. Knowledge of Policies- Unsatisfactory- Coach is unfamiliar with athletic policies of the WIAA, FRCC, and De Pere School District. Basic- Coach is familiar with athletic policies of the WIAA, FRCC, and De Pere School District. Proficient- Coach displays solid content of the policies of the WIAA, Bay Conference, and De Pere School District. Distinguished- Coach displays extensive content knowledge of the policies of the WIAA, FRCC Conference, and De Pere School District. B. Cooperation with Athletics Director- Unsatisfactory- Coach seldom cooperates with Athletics Director. Basic- Coach cooperates with Athletics Director. Proficient- Coach cooperates with Athletics Director, and other coaches to upgrade program. Distinguished- Coach cooperates with Athletics Director, and other coaches to upgrade total athletics program. C. Budget- Unsatisfactory- Coach does not turn in complete budget. Basic- Coach turns in completed budget. Proficient- Coach turns in complete budget, with goals to improve status of program. Distinguished- Coach turns in completed budget, with goals to improve status of program. Coach details items, prices, and possible vendors available. D. Youth Programs- Unsatisfactory- Coach shows no interest in youth programs. Basic- Coach shows interest in youth programs. Proficient- Coach shows steady interest and involvement in youth programs. Distinguished- Coach shows steady interest, and hands-on involvement with youth programs. Coach holds camps and/or clinics to develop youth programs. E. Media Relations- Unsatisfactory- Coach fails to report scores and pertinent information to area media. Basic- Coach reports scores and pertinent information to area media. Proficient- Coach reports scores and pertinent information to area media to develop sound public relations. Distinguished- Coach reports scores and pertinent information to area media to develop sound relations, and initiates topics for contribution. F. Scouting Responsibilities- Unsatisfactory- Coach has no clear scouting methods. Basic- Coach has recognizable scouting methods. Proficient- Coach has clear and detailed scouting methods. Distinguished- Coach has clear and detailed scouting methods, and shares information with players, and coaching staff. G. Supervision- Unsatisfactory- Coach demonstrates little or no supervision of buses, activity rooms, and playing facilities. Basic- Coach provides minimal supervision of buses, activity rooms, and playing facilities. Proficient- Coach supervises buses when used, and obtains adult drivers when buses are not used, and supervises all athletic facilities. Distinguished- Coach supervises buses when used, and obtains adult drivers when buses are not used, and supervises all athletic facilities. Coach has high expectation of all athletes for all athletic environments. H. Knowledge of Sport- Unsatisfactory- Coach rarely attends coaches’ clinics or camps to improve knowledge of sport. Basic- Coach attends clinics or camps regularly to improve knowledge of sport. Proficient- Coach attends clinics and camps on a consistent basis to improve knowledge of sport. Distinguished- Coach attends clinics and camp, and encourages other coaches in program to attend also. Coach is in constant search for knowledge of sport.
4. Performance Performance- Unsatisfactory- Team performance and effort is seldom at a level consistent or above the ability of the team. Basic- Team performance and effort is sometimes at a level consistent or above the ability of the team. Proficient- Team performance and effort is often at a level consistent or above the ability of the team. Distinguished- Team performance and effort is always or almost always at a level consistent or above the ability of the team.
