The Artfull Bra

THE ARTFUL BRA A New Project for all FFWC Members!!

To keep breast cancer awareness in the forefront, we have decided to present a project that we feel will do just that. It is called……….The Artful Bra project.

This project is intended to make the public aware of breast cancer, to memorialize those lost to the disease and to also honor survivors. What is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the breast. It is considered a heterogeneous disease—differing by individual, age group, and even the kinds of cells within the tumors themselves. Obviously no woman wants to receive this diagnosis, but hearing the words “breast cancer” doesn’t always mean an end. It can be the beginning of learning how to fight, getting the facts, and finding hope.

Women in the United States get breast cancer more than any other type of cancer except for skin cancer. It is second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death in women.

Each year it is estimated that nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. Approximately 1,700 men will also be diagnosed with breast cancer and 450 will die each year.

A note from your FFWC Project Managers, Sherry Dahlstedt, Lynn Cline, Myra Kinnie

We announced the Artful Bra Project at Fall Boards. All members may enter a bra for this project. It must be a padded bra, size 36C, and must be decorated outside as well as inside including the straps. (This is not to be entered in your club or district arts and crafts competition.)

The bras will be judged at Spring Convention 2010. After they have been judged, you may pick them up or allow us to keep them for a “Traveling Exhibit”. Needless to say, it is hoped that you will allow FFWC to keep them for exhibiting..

A time line has been created to allow each district to display the Artful Bras for three to four weeks each. This time line will be given to each District Director in the near future. She will then contact all clubs to set up the specific timing and location of displays.

We are truly looking forward to seeing your spectacular creations. Let your imagination run WILD!!!
