PLATTE VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL WRESTLING

Coaches: Clay Flot, Jason Rydgren

Wrestling season is upon us again. We believe the purpose of middle school wrestling is to introduce proper fundamentals of the sport while beginning to create a competitive atmosphere. In one to two short years, these boys will be in high school and it is our duty to prepare them for this level of competition.

Practice Times

1. Practices will be held at the Platte Valley field house beginning Wednesday January 6th. Practice times are from 3:15-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. PLEASE ARRANGE TO HAVE YOUR CHILD PICKED UP NO LATER THAN 5:15 p.m. each day. 2. If you cannot attend practice, please contact the coach the day before you plan on being absent. Practices are mandatory. Attendance will be taken before each practice. You ABSOLUTELY must have 5 practices in before you are eligible to wrestle in the first match.

Practice Equipment

1. Athletes will need to bring all of the following: a. Practice clothing (shorts, t-shirt, etc.). Please do not wear your school clothes!!!! The penalty for not wearing proper clothing is one unexcused absence. b. Wrestling shoes c. Head Gear

Game Uniforms

1. Game uniforms will be provided by PVMS and MUST be returned at the end of the season. The athlete will be responsible for reimbursing the school for the cost of the uniform if it is lost or ruined. 2. We will provide a sweatshirt and sweats for warm-ups and MUST be returned at the end of the season. The athlete will be responsible for reimbursing the school for the cost of the warm ups if it is lost or ruined.

Rules

1. Be on time, dressed and ready to begin practice at 3:15. Three tardies will count as one unexcused absence. Each tardy will also result in extra conditioning at the end of practice. 2. One unexcused absence will result in the loss of the following week’s match. 3. Five unexcused absences and the athlete will be removed from the team. 4. Eligibility will be determined on Mondays and be in effect for the following school week (Monday-Monday which includes any Saturday tournaments). If a student is ineligible for a given week, it will result in a mandatory probation for a specified length of time. While on probation, the student will be able to practice but cannot travel with the team to any matches. If a student is ineligible for any combination of THREE WEEKS during the season they will be removed from the team. 5. Being a student always comes before being an athlete. Please keep up with your class work (see eligibility rules in Student Handbook). 6. Be respectful of teammates and coaches at all times. 7. When we play and travel we represent Platte Valley Middle School, you will be expected to be on your best behavior at all times. 8. Students are expected to ride the bus to the activity. If the student wants to ride home with their parent or guardian, a WRITTEN request must be submitted to the coach. A student may NOT ride with anyone other than his or her parent or guardian. This does not include home games. 9. Dress appropriately and neatly for home and out-of-town games. 10. Please try to schedule appointments around practice time. We don’t have many practices as it is!! Players MUST have 5 practices before being allowed to wrestle in any matches. 11. A student, who is assigned in-school suspension for one day or less, shall be ineligible for half of the available matches at his weight. A student who is assigned two or more days of in-school suspension shall miss the entire next match. 12. A student who receives out of school suspension shall miss the entire next two matches. Students who receive out of school suspension cannot participate in practice or events. (See student handbook) 13. A student who receives an after school detention will be counted as an unexcused absence. 14. Athletes need to remain in uniform and at the event until the last match has ended. Coaches need to put out information and we need to be supporting our teammates. 15. Parents, any problem or concern during a dual or tournament will need to be addressed 24 hours after competition. (24hr Rule) This gives both parties time to properly address the issue.

Playing Time

Unfortunately, in all levels of sports, playing time is always a main concern. In accordance to the numbers we have this year, there will be a varsity and junior varsity level. The athletes will wrestle off for their specific weights each Monday. The winning wrestler will be on the varsity. Varsity and junior varsity is determined by the wrestle offs and not the coach, this also allows us to match them up with wrestlers of similar skill level when possible.

We are very excited about the season ahead and the boys we will be working with. Our intention is to provide many opportunities for skill improvement and understanding of wrestling.
