Strategic Planning Committee Meeting Minutes Friday, June 8, 2012

Team Members: Present - Lane Glenn, Bill Heineman, Chuck Phair, Dawna Perez, Judith Kamber, Magdalena Suarez- Shannon, Ellen Grondine, Rachel Hellmann, Mary Chatigny & Beth Donovan Absent –Mary Ellen Ashley, Tom Fallon, Janice Rogers & Terri Cargan, Jason Bohanan

The Steering Committee met on Friday, June 8th. Goal leaders provided updates and team progress to date (please see below). Ellen Grondine introduced a sample progress report template for team reference and in preparation for progress reports due on June 25th. The blank template can be found on the strategic planning web page, and a completed sample can be found in Goal 1.

Mary Ellen Ashley and Ellen are in the process of reviewing strategic goals and objectives submitted by Cabinet members as a means of identifying initiatives that align with the work of goal teams. Goal leaders will be given this information for review and consideration as soon as possible. Follow-up meetings will be scheduled with goal leaders with Mary Ellen and/or Ellen within the next month.

Lane asked the team if we should identify any new process management teams from the goal teams or in collaboration with goal teams. Ellen will research possible alignments and include current projects and proposed projects for consideration to the agenda for the next steering committee meeting. One process management project for consideration is the Accessible Media Vision and Guidelines (Sue Martin), and the other is Electronic Signage (sponsored by David Gingerella- team has not yet been formalized).

Goal Team Updates: Goal Team 1- Next meeting scheduled for Tues, June 12th. Excavation on El-Hefni building to begin this week. Goal Team 2– Met on Wed, May 23rd. Working on phasing out some sub teams such as math and tutoring and creating new sub teams such as culture and equity, reading and other gateway courses such as psychology. In process of identifying what new teams are needed and what the focus will be. Next meeting scheduled for Wed, June 20, 2:00pm SC213

Goal Team 3 – Met on Wed, June 6th. Process management team identified that tutoring would best serve students if all tutoring services were under the same umbrella. Goal Team 4 – Met on Tues, May 15th. The team is working on gathering information and will prioritize tasks for possible assignment for the Merrimack Fellow, scheduled to begin in September, 2012. Goal Team 5 – Met on Thurs., May 31st. The team is working on an inventory of all leadership programs, opportunities and conferences and will identify any gaps between what NECC has to offer and what is still needed.
