 The government policy of apartheid (racism that was enforced by the government) has left many people still living in poverty, disadvantaged, and struggling with poor public transportation.

Facts about Mexico:  The economy of Mexico is split between agriculture and industry and most businesses, but not all, are owned by individuals.  The government has been selling off businesses it owned in the past: seaports, railroads, telecommunications, electricity generation, natural gas distribution, and airports.  Mexico is a part of 12 different free trade agreements with other countries, including the United States and Canada.

Facts about North Korea:  North Korea’s communist government controls most of the industries and factors of production.  The government in North Korea severely limits who is allowed to come in or out of North Korea with goods and services.  A large population in North Korea suffers from poverty and malnutrition, and there are groups from other countries and world organizations who provide food and assistance, although the government often changes its policies and restricts what they can do to help.

Facts about Russia:  While the government of Russia allows many industries and services to be privately owned and operated, there are still government owned industries and strict laws regulating even the private industries.
